I’m full-on sobbing now. No matter how hard I try, I can’t stop. There are too many of them and all fucking huge. No way I’m gonna be able to fight my way out of this. They own me. Whatever they want, I have to give it to them.

I hook my thumbs into the waist of my spandex shorts. As I push them down over my hips, a voice booms behind me, “What the fuck is going on here?” When I look over my shoulder, Seth breaks through the wall of men and I’ve never been so fucking glad to see him. “Candy, get your clothes on. Go home.”

“She owes us, Duke,” Grim barks, grabbing my arm and pulling me back.

Seth yanks me away from him. “We have to vote on taking in new whores.”

“Like we voted on paying the mafia off for her?” Mac shoots back. “Besides, what’s the point? We already know the results.”

Seth tucks me behind his back before he explains, with all the authority his presidency gives him, “I fucked up once, I won’t do it again.Everyonegets a vote at the next club meeting.”

They all scowl and curse under their breath, but they don’t fight him anymore.

“Thank you,” I tell Seth when the others have dispersed throughout the club.

“Don’t. I only delayed the inevitable.”

“Misty will never forgive you if you let the club vote to make me a clubwhore.”

“I’m prez, not dictator. She knows how this works.”

My panic is in full swing and I know I shouldn’t say it because it could get me in even bigger trouble if they think I’m a flight risk, but I can’t control my outburst, “I could run away.”

Seth gives me a look full of pity. “You know we’d find you.”

He’s right. It’s over. There’s nothing left to do but hope Seth can convince the club to let me pay them back some other way. But whatever they decide, I have to accept my fate.

“Go home, Candy,” Seth says.

Walking back to the dressing room, I can’t imagine how I face Liam after this. I don’t want to break up with him but I can’t stay with him and keep this secret.

“Candy, sweetie, what the hell happened?” Sapphire asks when I sit at my station in the dressing room and the bright lights show the dark streaks of mascara down my cheeks.

“I’m in so much trouble, Sapphire,” I admit and start sobbing again.

Sapphire wraps her arms around me and holds my cheek to her double-Ds shushing me as she strokes my hair. “It’s alright, sweetie.”

“It’s really not. I’ve gotten myself into such a big mess.”

“What mess?” Sapphire asks. Normally, I’d think she was just digging for gossip but there’s genuine concern in her voice and I wonder if Jazz told her what happened on the floor when they told her to tell Liam I was working late. Or maybe she’s remembering what happened with Eddie’s thugs and has guessed the trouble I’m in with the Kings now.

Either way… “I can’t tell you. And I can’t tell Liam, but if he sees me like this, he won’t give up until I do. And when he finds out… He’ll get himself killed trying to protect me.”

Sapphire holds me at arm’s length and locks her dark eyes on mine. “Tell Liam you’re staying with me tonight. A girl’s night. It will give you some time to get a handle on things.”

“You’d do that for me?”

“We’re Polecats. That makes us family. Family looks out for each other.”

“Thanks, Sapphire,” I say, throwing my arms around her.

I hate keeping this from Liam but I can’t tell him yet. Not while the wound is this fresh. I won’t be able to hide my fear and he’ll do something stupid dangerous. I’d never be able to forgive myself if he gets killed because of me.

After taking my phone out of my purse, I send Liam a text.

LIAM: I’ll miss you.

ME: I’ll miss you more.
