The rhythmic press of her soft, perky tits on my ribs stops when she sucks in a breath and holds it.

When she finally moves again, she lifts her face to look me in the eyes and asks, timidly, “Why does that matter?”

Heat boils under my skin, angry at the instant reaction my cock has to her asking that fucking question like the answer isn’t going to damn me straight to hell. “Don’t tempt me, city girl,” I grit through my teeth.

“Tempt you how?”

She has to know. She can’t be that naive.

But if she is… Fuck. That’s just one more reason she needs to leave this room right fucking now.

“Go back to your movie. Ash is waiting for me,” I say so coldly I feel the sting like an ice pick to the heart.

Skye stumbles as I push out of her hold on me and walk to the door.

She calls after me. My foot hesitates to take that first step out the door.

But with a deep sigh, I say goodnight and take the step.

Skye

No.Notagain.

He’s not running away from me. Not without telling me why.

“I’m not feeling so good,” I tell Maya and Penny, poking my head into the living room. “I’m going out to get some fresh air.”

“You want us to come with you?” Penny asks.

“Nah, I’ll be fine.”

The girls nod as I turn and run out the door after Theron, not even bothering to put on pants or shoes.

Seventeen… Why would it matter that I’m only seventeen? Unless…

No. There’s no way a guy like Theron would ever be interested in someone like me. Short, chubby, awkward… I saw the girls he and Ash and Boone were hanging out with at the bonfire. They all looked more like Maya. Long legs, lean, and fit. That’s the kind of girl I imagine him with. No one would question it. I can’t do anything but question why he would be attracted to me with girls like that to choose from.

Walking along the broken concrete sidewalk, I find Theron standing under a security light beside his bike zipping up his riding suit. My heart leaps when Ash speeds by taking another lap around the track in the dark with only his single headlight to show him the way.

“Theron,” I say to get his attention.

He turns. With a furrowed brow, he points and says, “Go back inside, Skye.”

A chill crawls up my bare legs and I’m not sure if it’s the late September air or Theron’s stare.

“Not until you tell me why you keep running away from me.”

I normally wouldn’t be this forward or demanding but that’s only because I wouldn’t care if anyone else did what he’s doing. Anyone else, I’d just let them go. Probably be happy they were gone because that's what I'm used to. But I don’t want Theron to leave.

“I told you why.”

“Because I’m seventeen? Why does that matter? Don’t you like hanging out with me? I thought we had fun. I thought we were friends. Or at least getting there.”

Theron cocks his head at me. “Friends.”

“Yeah.”
