“You can’t help me, Evi.”

“Yes, I can. Just don’t give up yet. Please,” I say, pressing my lips to his again.

His body tenses beneath me as another spark passes between us. His hand hesitantly lifts toward me, gently caressing my cheek before slipping back into my hair as he deepens the kiss.

A low rumble starts in the depths of his chest as he moves to sit up, only for us to realize that the chains around his wrists are trapped beneath a heavy metal beam.

I see the defeat flicker in his eyes.

“Leave me, Evi. While you still can.”

“No. I came to save you, and I’m not leaving until I do.”

Evi moves to straddle me, her lips finding mine again. I can taste the urgency and fear in her kiss, and I hate that I’m the reason behind it.

I hadn’t meant for anyone to find me alive.

And certainly not her.

My mind snaps back into focus as Evi leans back to grab me and I feel myself begin to stiffen in her hand.

“Evi?”

“I know what saving you requires,” she says.

I frown at her, my head tilting to the side.

“Dante, and Seven?”

She nods slowly.

“I chose them,” Evi says, “and I choose you, too.”

“You know what this means?” I ask.

“I do,” she answers, her eyes dropping from mine.

“And, you’d do that for me?”

“Yes,” she says, her voice unwavering as she meets my gaze again.

“Kiss me, Evi.”

She obliges, and I savor the sweetness of the moment before sinking my fangs into her bottom lip.

She whimpers as her blood fills my mouth, and my eyes roll back in my head as I feel strength return to my body.

I release her just as I start to feel my control slip away. My muscles ripple with power, and I fight to regain control as I feel the monster inside me clawing to get out.

Clawing to get at Evi.

My lip curls up over my teeth at the thought.

She’s mine.
