“Do you understand now?” She panted, pushing back her hood. “You and I are bound, but there are ways around it, and I will take great pleasure in watching you die at the hands of the man you love. He’s the one who created the bond, and he will be the one to break it. Erik will be the one to gift me your life, and I will live and rule for eternity.”
“You’re forgetting one thing,” Mina said, smiling as blood dripped from a crack in her lip. “He loves me.”
Evangeline threw her head back and laughed. “I would’ve at least hoped you were smarter than that girl. Erik couldneverlove you. You were bred to entice him, your blood was mixed from the most powerful of witch bloodlines, and you were raised by a witch who guided you into becoming exactly like me. You’re nothing but an illusion.”
“Is that so…” Mina smiled wider, despite the chaos surging through her mind. Evangeline felt her pain. She felt her pain. She was either an incredible actor, or they really were bound together.
Evangeline shook her head. “I don’t know why I’m even bothering.”
“Because,” Mina said. “You’re afraid.”
“I am queen. I have nothing to be afraid of, especially not from you,” she said. “You are nothing.”
“And yet, you’re afraid that I’m right.”
Evangeline slapped her hard across the face. Mina’s head snapped to the side, and she couldn’t hold back the hysterical laughter that bubbled from her lips. The queen shoved open her cell door and ran from the room.
“You know I’m right,” Mina shouted out after her, spitting blood across the floor.
