“Just hold on to me,” she said, scanning the horizon for another arrow headed in their direction. She had no idea where they’d come from, or if there were more coming, but Stormwind wasn’t far. He’d galloped away a few paces but he was coming back, seeing his master back on his feet.

She couldn’t be sure what happened to Rain, but grabbing a hold of Stormwind’s reins she felt the ground sway beneath her feet. She could feel the blood dripping through her hair down the back of her neck. She didn’t have long before she’d lose consciousness.

“Can you climb up?” She asked, shifting Erik around to the side of the horse. He nodded, and with a loud grunt and growl he swung himself up into the saddle. She pushed up onto the horse in front of him, and he wrapped his arms around her.

“You’re bleeding,” he said, his fingers digging into her waist. “We have to hurry. If I get too weak, i won’t be able–”

She didn’t wait for him to finish. Kicking Stormwind into motion, she turned them back in the direction of the palace. The horse responded as if he had read her thoughts, and understood the urgency of their current situation. His hooves beat the ground harder and faster than they had on their way back from the mist. The wind whipped past her, and just as the gates to the city came before them she felt her hands begin to slacken on the reins.

“Mina?” Erik gasped, noticing her lilting to the side. “Damn, hold on. Just hold on. We’re almost there.”

She nodded weakly, but the darkness pressed in harder and harder as they climbed the side of the mountain. Her body went limp, and her mind fell into the abyss calling her name just as the palace gates opened before them.

The last thing she heard was Erik shouting her name in the distance. “Mina!”
