“Oh, um… I’m just thinking about how nice it is to have you home.” I grab her hand in mine, giving her a soothing squeeze.

“How did you know where I was?” Her question catches me by surprise, because we haven’t really talked about it. She hasn’t opened up about her life in that house.

“We found a name, Jack Arivette, on the web and he told us about a club, Darkest Desires. We discovered that a human trafficking operation took place there. We decided to check it out and while we were there, we were able to get information about Sutton from the manager.” I hate lying to Lainey about how we really found her, but I’m not ready to tell her the truth yet about Greyson. She should at least have more time to get settled before we spring that on her. I’ll never ever let my sister down again like I did when we were twelve, so I’ll do what it takes to make sure she is safe. Even if it means lying to her.

“He just gave up that information?”

“Well… not willingly. We might have used a little force to get it out of him.”

“Right, I’m gonna guess Zep went psycho on him. He seems like the type.” I scoff at her thinking. It would seem that way—Zep is massive, tatted, and scary—but it was me that day in Haskins’ office that went crazy.

“Surprisingly, Zep was the calmest of us all. I may have gone off the deep end that day trying to find you, but those three always reel me back in.”

“I’m glad you have so many people that love you. I can tell that they would do anything for you, Lya.”

“You’re their family too, just like you are mine. They would do anything for you, like take down Sutton.” I try to ease her into a conversation about her life in Abingdon.

We have plans to take down Harvey Sutton, but shutting down a big operation like his takes time and planning. The guys have been working hard on trying to formulate a plan that keeps all of the women under Sutton’s control safe, while crushing him in the process. Lainey has been hesitant to help, but she’s the only one with inside information that could stop this without it getting out of hand.

Instead of replying she just nods, turning back to the movie. Now that she’s back, the chaos of my life has settled down. I no longer have to feel like I’m burning on fumes from the madness of needing to find her.

She’s here and I can finally live in peace. So for now, we take it day by day, enjoying the little things and making up for nine years of lost time.

Epilogue

Six weeks earlier

Opening my eyes, all I see is one bright light shining down on me. The intensity causes me to snap them shut as spots bounce around my irises. My head feels foggy and a headache pounds behind my skull. It feels like I’ve been punched repeatedly over and over again. My body feels exhausted and weak. Attempting to push my hair out of my eyes, I realize I’m bound to a chair.

Fuck. Lainey. Ergh, I mean Lya. It’s all coming back to me now.

How long have I been out? Damn it!I need to get out of here, but I feel so light-headed. Sweat mixes with blood as it runs down my body. Blood is puddled all around my leg from where that fucking jackass Zep shot me. He will regret the day he crossed me. Fucker couldn’t even stand up to me like a man and take me out with his hands. He played it scared by shooting me when no one was expecting it.

He made a mistake though, they all did. They should have just killed me when they had the chance. Now they’ve left me scorned and aching for Lainey more than I already was.

I’ll be reunited with my love again, even if I have to die trying. She’s worth dying for. She’s the fire to my cold exterior, she’s the light in my darkness, she’s the only one who can squeeze my bleeding heart making me beg her for more.

Your love triggered me, Lainey. I’m coming for you, baby. We will be together again.
