Ellie shook her head. “Uh, no. I’m not here for Ty.”

I tilted my head to the side. “Okay, what’s up?”

“Is Wren here?”

My heart fluttered at the sound of her name. I shook my head. “No. She said she was staying with you for a few days.”

The way Ellie’s eyes widened in shock had a rush of fear flooding me. I reached out and braced myself against the doorframe. “Isn’t she at your place?”

Ellie shook her head. “I haven’t seen her since the day before last. I tried to get hold of her all day yesterday. We hadn’t talked since she lost her job, and I was worried about her. I wanted to make sure she was doing all right.” Her eyes filled with tears.

All the breath left my lungs until they burned. My head spun but my body calmed—that steady numbness that spread through me in the face of crisis.

Wren was missing.
