“I know you’re going to think I’m saying this because Rome just claimed you in front of all of us but––”

I choke out a laugh at her words. Claimed me?

“But I’m sorry for the way I treated you. Monica was a friend when I needed one. I should have known better than to follow her blindly.”

That’s true.

“You’ve always been nice to me and a good server.”

“Thanks, Jackie.”

“Will you accept my apology?”

“I do.”

She smiles, and I watch her shoulders relax on the spot. “Okay. Good. Let me know if you need anything tonight.”

“Same to you.”

“All right. Thanks.” I watch her turn on her heel and head over to her tables.

“I’m glad she did that.” Rome’s right behind me. I swear, the guy is a ninja.

“Me too.”

“What color are your panties?”

“Rome?” I turn and slap him on the chest. “Stop.” The giggles can’t be stopped. He knows how modest I am, which means he’s been saying things like that to make me laugh. It gets a chuckle out of him too. Before he turns to head back to the bar, though, I whisper, “Black.”

“Fuck.” It’s the only word out of his mouth as he gets back to work.
