Indira marks it down in her notebook before we move on to the three studio rooms.

I’m surprised to find the rooms are still in great condition, though definitely dirty. For the most part, the mirrors and floor tile are intact. “We can have someone come in and clean and polish these floors up, but I don’t think we’ll have to replace them for now.”

“These rooms are so much more spacious than you’d think from the outside,” Addison says. “I bet I could comfortably fit at least ten kids per class in here.”

Indira nods. “It will probably take some time to build up our client base, though. The old studio did quite well, but I wouldn’t expect everyone to give it a shot right away. After a few months of word of mouth and maybe a recital or something, I honestly think we can make this something great for the community.”

Addison’s grin is wide. “I think so too.”

We check out the bathroom last, which definitely needs some work, and then we lock up and head back to our vehicles. Addison and Indira walk ahead, chatting about meeting up again over the weekend to start discussing finances, and Willow walks beside me, holding my hand.

“What do you think about Addison reopening the studio?” I ask her.

She smiles up at me. “I’m excited to dance again.”

“Oh!” Addison turns around abruptly. “I wanted to share the name for the studio. I mean, if it’s okay with my new business partner.”

“Girl, that’s all you,” Indira says.

Addison walks over to us and looks at Willow. “How does Willow’s sound to you? I was thinking our logo could be a willow tree with the branches in the shape of a dancing girl.”

Willow’s eyes go wide, a look of pure joy sliding over her face as she practically throws herself into Addison’s arms. “Really? That’s so cool!”

“I can’t think of a more perfect name.” Addison’s eyes are glassy as she hugs Willow back.

I have to swallow down my own emotion as I watch the two of them embrace. They’ve come so far from that first meeting, when, at the bare minimum, I was hoping they would get along. But I’ve been blown away by how strong their bond has already become.

It’s different than Willow’s bond was with Emily. I don’t think anything can compare to the relationship between a mother and her child—the love that knows no faults and no boundaries. What Addison and Willow share is more like a friendship and a deep respect for each other. It’s a beautiful thing, and I’m lucky I get to witness it.
