‘She’s returning your texts, though?’ Jen took a swig of her whisky and bared her teeth at the taste.

‘Yeah, but we’ve not spoken in a while. I said what I needed to and left her to it.’

‘Which is what you think I should do?’

‘You just go with your gut. You can only do what feels right to you.’

Jen drank another gulp of whisky. ‘Maybe I should take Alison up on her offer, move to London. Would keep me busy.’

Chloe whacked Jen on the arm. ‘Good to see your sense of humour’s still intact.’

‘Can you imagine?’

‘Let’s pray things never get that bad.’ Chloe topped the dregs of her old-fashioned with whisky. ‘Look, give Holly time. She’ll come round.’

‘And if she doesn’t, I’ll always have you and Ryan to live vicariously through.’

‘Speaking of which, I’m also feeling the little pitter-patters of the L-word.’

Jen’s eyes grew wide. ‘Shut up.’

‘Early days,’ Chloe replied, holding a hand in the air. ‘I won’t be saying it for a long time yet, but there’s deffo potential.’

‘Big news, Clo.’

‘Tell me about it.’

Jen was happy for her best friend, but couldn’t help the swell of longing that erupted in her heart. She missed Holly, and nothing would feel right until she won her back.
