Holly lingered in the living room doorway, unsure what she was meant to be doing or saying.
Eventually, Jen spoke. ‘Why didn’t you seem as surprised as me to see her?’
Holly opened her mouth to speak, but had second thoughts and snapped it shut.
Jen turned to face her, betrayal clear in her eyes. ‘Holly.’
Holly gulped, suddenly finding the window the most interesting thing in the world as she fought to keep her tears at bay. ‘I saw on her Instagram that she was coming home.’
‘Is that why you were being weird?’ Jen’s tone was low, like she was just holding herself together.
Holly nodded.
Jen tensed her jaw. Her eyes focused on Holly as she nodded slowly. ‘I think I need a moment alone, if that’s okay.’
‘Yeah, sure.’
‘As in, I want you to go home.’
Shit.‘Sure. I’ll get my stuff.’ Holly lingered before turning back to Jen. ‘I thought I was doing the right thing.’
