And now I had bigger priorities, like keeping another human alive, the way I looked was even less important. Although I still always made the effort to look presentable, I’d rather get some extra sleep or enjoy a longer breakfast with Leo and Lorenzo than spend an hour in front of a mirror every morning contouring and prettying myself like I used to.

But tired or not, I should have got up on time to have a shower and get dressed. If I’d followed my normal routine and hadn’t looked like I’d been dragged through a bush backwards, the whole video call boob thing could have been overlooked.

I shouldn’t have answered the call just like that either. I should have just put it on silent. If I was more in control of the situation and just called back ten minutes later once I’d got myself sorted, things would have been different.

Gosh. Was Viktor really that shallow? I couldn’t believe he’d just terminated our contract, thrown away a long, successful working relationship because he saw me looking like crap.

OMG.

OMG.

OMFG.

Purity Skincare accounted for a big chunk of revenue. Without Viktor’s business, a massive amount of income will be gone. Wiped out. Just like that.

We were screwed.

How was I going to pay the staff? All the bills?

What was I going to tell the team?

And once the clients got wind of Purity Skincare dumping us, they’d lose confidence and start resigning too. It’ll be like dominos.

Before I could stop them, the tears started streaming down my cheeks. Hard to believe I used to find it difficult to cry about anything. These days I was like a leaking tap.

But these tears were warranted.

This was a disaster.

I’d just lost the company one of our biggest clients.

I’d put the business and its future in danger. This wasn’t just about getting the business back under control like I’d put on my list. This was now about fighting for its survival.
