Chapter Thirty-Eight

Idefinitely needed an early night. It had been a busy day. As well as the normal Leo-related stuff, I’d been helping Geli clean the house. It was the least I could do after she’d kindly put us up. And it also helped to take my mind off the situation with Lorenzo.

I’d just been messaging him to let him know that Leo and I would be going to London tomorrow evening and he’d asked if he could see Leo to say goodbye. So we’d arranged to meet.

I wasn’t sure how well I’d hold it together. I missed him like crazy, but was still angry. Hopefully I’d be able to stay calm when I saw him. I guess only time would tell how I’d react.Who knows?Maybe between now and tomorrow, he’d come to his senses and Marta would have left.

Oh well. Thinking about it won’t change anything. The best thing I could do now was to sleep.

Just as I was about to get myself ready for bed, my phone rang. Maybe it was Lorenzo calling to change our meeting time. Better answer quickly before the ringing woke Leo up.

I glanced at the screen. It wasn’t Lorenzo.

‘Hi, Holly, are you okay?’ She didn’t answer, but I could hear faint sobbing. ‘Holly?’

‘C-can I come…can I…you said I could call you, if…’ My heart started racing. This wasn’t good.

‘Where are you?’

‘I-I’m outside Geli’s house, b-but I didn’t want to ring the bell, j-just in case…I wasn’t sure if you were, if you were still staying there or if…if you’d gone home…’

Thank God I’d messaged her earlier to let her know I’d fallen out with Lorenzo and I’d be at Geli’s if she needed me.

‘Yeah, I’m still here. Wait there. I’m coming now.’

I jumped off the bed and knocked on Geli’s bedroom door.

‘Sì?’ she called out. ‘Come in.’

‘I think something’s wrong with Holly. She’s outside…’

Geli leapt out from under her blanket and we both raced to the front door. When I opened it, Holly was standing there in tears.

‘Oh, darling!’ I threw my arms around her.

‘Come in, come in,’ said Geli, ushering her inside.

I released Holly, took her hand and led her into the living room.

She plonked herself down on the sofa.

‘What’s the matter?’ I squeezed her hand. ‘What happened?’

Holly buried her head in my shoulder and started sobbing again.

‘She needs a drink,’ said Geli, rushing to the kitchen. She returned seconds later with a large glass and a bottle of gin. ‘Here,’ she said, pouring enough liquid to sink a ship and passing the glass to Holly. ‘Drink.’

Holly lifted up her head and gulped it down.

‘What is it?’ I asked gently. I bet it had something to do with her bastard boss.

She took another gulp of gin and took a deep breath.

‘Silvestro…’

‘I knew it!’ I shouted. ‘What did that arsehole do to you?’

‘He…he put…he…’ She paused as if to compose herself. ‘He put his hand up my skirt. He touched me.’
