‘Bloody hell,’ I said as Geli and I started walking home. ‘Who knew there could be such drama in a small town? I guess it doesn’t matter if it’s a big city like London or a place like this, nowhere is immune to dishonesty.’
‘That is right. Sadly some people cannot be trusted… I heard you talking about your mother-in-law earlier. I saw her again this afternoon.’
‘Yes, I think she went to do food shopping. She came back with some bags. Don’t know why. There’s enough food in the house to feed a small country.’
‘I did not see her at the supermarket. I saw her at the house of Claudia again. I was across the road as she arrived, so this time I hid behind a car to watch. Claudia give her a bag. Then she run back inside and give her what look like a bottle, for a baby, and she put that in the bag, then zipped it up. Do you know why she would do that?’
‘Could you see what was inside the bottle?’
‘No. Not really.’
‘So it could have been empty?’
‘Maybe, but…’
‘She probably left it round there when she took Leo to play with her kid and the woman was just giving it back to her.’
‘Perhaps you are right, Sophia. I do not know. But if I was you, I would investigate. Something feels, how you say? Fish?’
‘You mean fishy?’
