“You guys.” Rose blinked back tears.

Gray hooked his arm around Rose’s waist, drew her close, and kissed her forehead.

The gesture was sweet and protective. Everything Rose needed and deserved.

Their mom sighed and watched with a soft smile on her face.

Poppy took the flowers from Rose. “I’ll put these in water and take them upstairs to your room.”

“Thank you.”

Gray took Rose’s hand. “It was nice to see both of you. I wish we could stay longer, but if we don’t head out, we’ll be late meeting Maggie and Marc.” He didn’t look the least bit enthusiastic about it.

“Have a good night,” their mom said.

Poppy nodded her good-bye, waited for them to leave, then headed into the kitchen with the flowers.

Mom followed her. “They look so good together.”

“He makes her happy. She glows when she’s with him.”

“Do you think this thing with Marc will get in the way of them being together?” The worry in Mom’s question matched the concern in her eyes.

Poppy arranged Gray’s thoughtful gift in the vase she found under the sink. She wasn’t worried about the couple at all. “Those two are already in love with each other, they just don’t know it yet.”
