Maggie grinned. “While they thought our staying in town separately before the wedding was a sweet gesture on your part,I’m pretty sure they know we can’t keep our hands off each other.”

Marc leaned in and kissed Maggie like no one was watching.

Rose immediately turned her head and found Gray just steps away.

He closed the distance and stood beside her. “Looks like they’re thinking of starting the honeymoon early.”

“Maggie’s staying with Marc tonight. Walk me out?”

Gray held out his hand. “Absolutely.” His warm hand clasped hers and everything felt right inside her. “I paid the tab.”

Marc came up for air and glanced over at them. “Huh? What?”

“I paid the bill. Meet you at the car in five.”

“Sure. Yeah.” Marc dove in for another kiss.

She and Gray left them in their love bubble and headed for the door. The second they exited and the door muffled the loud music, Rose sighed. “That’s better. I can actually hear myself think now.”

Gray glanced over at her. “And what are you thinking?”

“That this turned out to be a better night than I thought. And I had high expectations because I got to see my best friend again.”

Gray stopped with her beside her car. “I wasn’t excited about spending an entire week here with Marc, but meeting you, getting to spend time with you... I’m feeling like a week might not be enough.”

She eyed him. “Well, if someone actually calls me back about the job I applied for, who knows? You could be seeing a lot more of me.”

“I’m going to find out why nobody acted on your résumé when they are constantly looking for top talent, especially with your experience.”

“Thank you for the offer, but really, you don’t need to go out of your way for something that’s not even your job. I’ll follow up again next week.”

“I want to do it. If nothing else, I’d like to know why a résumé like yours is being overlooked and someone like you isn’t even interviewed, let alone given an offer.” He seemed as perplexed as she. “But right now I’m thinking of all sorts of offers I’d like to make.”

“You’ve already asked me to brunch.”

He moved a step closer. “And I can’t wait. Would you like me to pick you up?”

“Since I assume we’ll be eating at the hotel, I’ll meet you there. What time?”

“Eleven.”

“Until then.” Rose took a step away, but came up short when Gray continued to hold her hand. She looked down at their entwined fingers, then back at his gorgeous face and read the desire in his eyes, knowing hers reflected the same heat and need his did. “Something else you wanted?”

“So many things. I want to kiss you so bad it hurts.”

She went still.

“But as much as it pains me, I think I’ll wait, so you’ll be thinking of me tonight just as much as I’m thinking about you.”

She tilted her head and gave him a flirty grin. “Don’t you think kissing me will make me think of you even more?”

“I knew you were a temptation I couldn’t resist when I first saw you.” He released her hand so he could cup her cheek. His warm skin against hers made her burn. And then he leaned in, pressed his lips to hers, and set her body on fire with the soft caress. She sighed at the sweet contact. Then he took the kiss deeper, sliding his tongue past her lips, tasting her like he had all the time in the world. It was deep and slow, an exploration and a revelation all at once, because she didn’t want him to stop. Ever.

But he did, with the brush of his lips over hers once more as he pulled away just an inch so he could look into her eyes. “A week is definitely not going to be enough.”
