CHAPTER NINETEEN

Always on my Mind

Logan

Prepping for my date with Stephanie, the first thing I did after we parted ways at the mini-golf was stop at the hairdressers for a haircut. Ridding myself of the extra length I’ve been carrying around these last few weeks, it felt refreshing to lose a few inches.

Brushing my hair to the left, I admired the new length in the mirror before working the buttons on the third shirt I’d tried on in the last hour. Deciding to settle with the light gray dress shirt, paired with black jeans and a classy belt, I checked my deodorant for the last time before I’m ready to leave.

Looking for a place to buy flowers, I stopped by guest services where the attendant directed me toward the gift shop. Thanking her for her time, I dragged my hand over my neck.

I wanted to get Stephanie something special for tonight.

Seeing the gift shop as my only option, I figured I’d have to make the best of it. Stepping into a room filled with miss-matched items, this gift shop seemed to have a little bit of everything.

Spotting the flowers by the checkout, I found Andre there as well..

“Hey man, funny finding you here?” I said, drawing his attention.

The corners of his mouth lift with his sudden and unexpected laugh. “Yeah, I wanted to get Anne Marie some flowers to make tonight special, but there’s no flower shop.”

“Right! You’d think on a boat this size they’d have at least one decent flower shop,” I agreed, looking over the selection.

“What special plans do you have tonight?” Andre asks.

My lips pull into a smile. “Stephanie and I are finally going on a date.”

“I thought the two of you were already an item.”

Reaching for the tension in my neck, I shrug. “It wasn’t in the cards for us back then.”

“Because of your career?”

I nod. “Distance makes things difficult.”

Opening the display case, Andre reached inside. “I can see that,” he agreed, reaching for the bouquet of red roses. “Think she’ll like them?” Andre asked.

“Can’t go wrong with red roses. I’m thinking about grabbing this bouquet myself,” I said, reaching for the dozen roses titledalways on my mind.

“Women have that effect, huh?” Andre bumps my arm.

“They sure do.”

Walking up to the cashier, her eyes widen when she sees the sight of both Andre and I carrying three dozen roses between us. “Oh wow, there are some lucky ladies aboard the ship, huh?” she says.

Glancing over his shoulder, I give Andre a nod to go first. “There sure are,” he replies for both of us.

Taking Andre’s bouquet, our cashier, Julia, scans the tag. “Ah, my true love bouquet. You know these are perfect for proposals,” she winks.

Andre smirks. “That’s the intention I’m going for.”

“Oh, my gosh. Congratulations,” Julia sings, her voice rising a few octaves with excitement.

“Congrats, man,” I said, clapping him on the shoulder with my free hand.

“Thank you,” he nods. “I’d say it’s going to be a special night for the both of us.”

Julia looks past Andre towards me. “Are you also proposing?” she asks with equal excitement.
