I follow them to the park. They pay for one of the roller coasters and get on.

I debate going on the same ride but I’m not a fan of heights. And as far as I can see, all the rides in the park are massive roller coasters. Little surprise as to why it’s named Coasters.

I decide to wait for them at the ice cream stand. I have a good view of their ride and unless they stare hard at the ice cream stand, they won’t see me.

The first thing Birdie does when they get down is to retch. I raise my ice cream to my face, so I won’t see if she tosses anything. She wobbles a beat and Peter puts a hand on her back to steady her.

How ironic. Peter is being a gentleman.

As if he heard me, he brings out his phone and starts swiping. His other hand hasn’t left Birdie's back, but still. What a jerk. It wouldn’t hurt him to pay a little more attention to his date.

An attendant comes up to the girl and gives her a bottle of water. She stays with her till she calms down. Birdie takes a few gulps of the water. I can’t fault her reaction. Mine would have been even worse.

The attendant gestures to Birdie's wrist and I guess she’s complimenting her bracelet or something.

Or maybe not, because Brittany’s expression turns sour.

I see the attendant leave their side looking embarrassed.

Birdie says something to Peter and they start to make their way toward the exit. I hide behind my ice cream till they pass, then I follow.

They enter a restaurant and this causes me to smile. People talk when they eat. And I want tea, gist, gossip. Whatever you call it.

I wait for them to take their seat before sneaking in and taking the booth next to theirs. The partition between the booths is just painted canvas, so I'm certain I’ll be able to hear their conversation clearly.

My phone blares with a call from Mom. Oh shit. I fish it out of my pocket and end the call quickly by sending one of the default texts. I pray to God that Peter doesn’t recognize my ringtone.

Several beats pass and I relax as Peter doesn’t shift from his seat.

"Brooke, why are you behaving like a child?" Peter's first words to the girl after they settle down are a shock to me. Is he serious?

"The bracelet, Peter," Brooke whines. "I'm not comfortable with it anymore. That attendant probably saw you with your dead ex. She said something about ‘the bracelet fits you better’."

I guessed as much. Brooke was wearing the Swarovski bracelet I’d seen on her the day she poured a drink on my face. The same one that I saw on Sheila on my first day at work.

“No, no,” Peter’s voice draws me back to their conversation. “She gave it back to me after we broke up,” he says.

“I’m still not comfortable with it,” Brooke says in a small voice.

Peter's voice sounds angry as he says, "Then why did you wear it? I didn't force you. I remember I told you not to wear it, but you took it from my drawer anyways. You chose to. Don't give me shit for this, Brooke. Please."

Peter's phone rings and I hear him curse.

“Hey, we have to go,” he says to Brooke.

“But we just got here,” she says. “And I’m hungry.”

"I'm leaving," Peter says rudely. "You can stay, but I'm leaving."

Poor Brooke. I bet she’s just starting to realize the kind of person Peter is. I pray she has the sense to call off the relationship.

I stand to follow them as they leave but my stomach grumbles so I sit back down and wave a waitress over.

There’s no use spending more of my day trailing them. I should enjoy what’s left of it.
