I moved in, my eyes barely able to make out his form through the misty glass of his shower box.I approached the glass door and yanked it open.
I found Ethan naked in front of me, all six feet and two inches of him. He was visibly bruised and wounded. Despite the fact that I could see the stitches on his body, he did not slouch. His shoulders were raised and straight, and his eyes were alert.
He lingered for a moment, peering through the wall of steaming hot water at me. He was as surprised as I was by my confidence, but I had already come that far. I knew I had to go all the way or I would regret it.
"May I joinyou?" I asked.
Ethan's face lit up with a familiar smirk. "It would be imprudent of me to say no."
That's a relief! I untied the rope around my waist and removed my bathrobe. The water from the shower splashed onto my feet, slightly burning me.
Standing naked in the glass box with him, I felt nervousness creep back in.
"Shut the door," Ethan said, andI was in, moving in closer to him.
"Does it hurt?" I asked rhetorically. I was aware that the bruises were painful. There were stitches on his arms, side, and thighs, but I knew he wouldn't admit it to anyone, let alone me.
My heart skipped a beat when hemoved. I expected him to drag me into the bathroom, but instead he took my hands in his and drew me closer to him, past the rushing water. I fell onto his steamy broad chest, but he held me up so I could see his face. His solemn expression calmed my racing thoughts.
"You saved me tonight," he said over the rushing water, hiswords makingme flush andgoosebumps appearingall over my wet skin. Given the man I knew him to be, I had not expected him to bring it up at all. But there was something different about him that night.
That night, Ethan's eyes were not filled with malice or mockery. They were genuine.
As he towered over me, his grip on my hands was gentle, as was his voice.
I leaned into him instinctively.He brought my right hand to his mouth and gently kissed it. My thighs welcomed the heat as it crept up them.
I noticed his erection when I looked down. He was as massive as I remembered and just as hungry for me. Despite my desire for him, my gaze returned to his face.
Did you mean what you said? I wondered, searching his eyes for answers.
"It was the most careless thing I've ever seen," he said to me, "but I'm standing here because you decided to act on it."
Hearing him say those words to me filled me with so much happiness. I knewrushing in to disrupt Ethan's fistfight was a very careless plan, one that could have cost me my life, but I had acted on impulse. My only concernhad been to protect him.
In reality, I was terrified of losing him.
"Why did you do it?" he asked.
Lie.It was my hesitant advice in my head. I didn't want him to judge me if I told him the truth, so I lied.
"You saved me, so I thought it only right to save you as well," I lied.
Ethan nodded, easily believing me, and I immediately felt bad about lying to him. Why should Ilie when he's been truthful?
"I did it because I care about you,and I believe a part of you might care about me toobecause you protected me when the car turned over," I said sharply, hoping it would dispel the memories of the recent lie.
Every fiber in my body fought against telling Ethan the truth, but it was unavoidable. I was not a liar. My emotions were like a fire beneath my loins. There would be peace only when exposed to the one person who mattered.
Ethan, you did this to me. You've made me both confused and concerned about you. I never thought I'd care about a Mafia boss, but here we are.
When I looked up at his handsome face, I felt no regret. He didn't make any light of it. He simply remained silent, staring deeply into my eyes while still holding my hands in his.
Say something. It was my sole desire at that moment. The world did not matter. Nothing did.
"Come here," he said, pulling my hands to him. He wanted me to surrender myself to him, to give him consent.
"Are you trulyEthan Levine?" I asked as I walked back towards his hot body.
