CHAPTERFIFTEEN

ETHAN

When I returned, she was not in her seat. I tensed up immediately, scanning the room for her. She could not have leftthe building. My security guards were stationed outside. They would have noticed her unlesssheblended in with the crowd.

I was looking for my phone in my pocket to call Tristan when I noticed her at the refreshment stand being accosted by Francis Earl. My fists balled up instinctively. I took my first step when I noticed Vanessa wasn't having trouble saying no.

She balanced her purse on the base of her wine glass, which she held in one hand.

Francis tried to lean in, but she pushed him back with her finger. She stepped aside politely and approached our seat.

Francis looked after her. But he wasn't the only one. There were far too many lustful male gazes on her.

I realized I had neglected her for far too long. I observed the Minister of Aviation rising from his seat. He observed her at the refreshment table and intended to approach her.

I moved quickly, arriving at the table just in time to take her arm.

"Minister," I said, giving him a small nod.

He coughed lightly. "I just wanted to say hello and exchange pleasantries."

"Of course," I said with a smile and a firm handshake. He coughed again and turned away without saying anything else.

Vanessa fixed her gaze on me, a quiet fury in her eyes. "How kind of you to join me." She was sobeautiful;I wanted her even when she was angry.

"One of the charities we run is in a state of disarray. Please accept my apologies. It was an emergency."

Her eyes softened for a moment, but I could tell she was still angry.

I kissed her on the cheek. "Vanessa, look around the room," I said quietly in her ear. "So many people are looking at you. So,so many."

I could feel her stiffening beneath my whispers. "I didn't notice. I was expecting you." Her voice still had a whiff of annoyance in it.

I cracked a smile. "Good." I took her hand in mine and led her away from the building.

"Vanessa?"

She raised her head to look at me.

"Look only at me. Think only of me."

I said nothing else but grabbed her hands and led her away from the crowd. As expected, the meeting room was empty. I led her in and shut the door behind us.

VANESSA

My heart was pounding in my chest as he shut the door behind us.

He walked back towards me as I backed away. But soon, I was up against the wall, and he was only a few paces away.

"You weren't in your seat when I returned."

"I was thirsty, and you took forever."

He was now standing in front of me, looking at me disapprovingly. He leaned in and took my lips in his. He sucked on my bottom lip before moving on to my tongue.

"You intoxicate me, little kitty," he murmured against my neck.
