My eyes lift and meet Trent’s in the mirror. He’s come into the bathroom and stands behind me, his gaze caught on the brush in my hand. Before he can hide it, I catch the brief look of pain in his expression. Not because of my hair loss—I know he couldn’t care less if I had hair or not—but because of the battle I have ahead of me.

I don’t realize how much I need his comforting touch until he slides his arms around my waist, and I’m pulled back against his hard chest. It’s ridiculous to be so affected from seeing that chunk of hair stuck in the brush.

“Looks like it’s time for a shopping trip,” he murmurs as he nuzzles his face in my neck, kissing the crook of my shoulder. “Want me to go with you, or are you taking Ashlyn?”

I turn in his arms and lace my fingers together behind his neck. Getting to my toes, I kiss him, appreciating his silent support.

“Are you really up to shopping? You do know when I shop I always come back with a trunk load. Scarves won’t be the only thing I’m buying.”

He gives me a small smile. “I’d do anything to make you happy, Ally. Even if it means being dragged around from store to store.”

My lips tip up. “Lucky for you, I’m a cool wife, and won’t force you to do that.” I kiss him before he can reply. “I’ll see if Ashlyn wants to go after my appointment today. As sucky as the situation is, it’ll give us the excuse to have girls’ time. I’ll ask if she wants to bring Destiny. You and Dillon can do whatever guys do when they’re alone together.”

He nods, pulling me in for a hug. I hold him tight, once again glad he’s here with me. If he wasn’t, I highly doubt I would have been able to go much longer without telling him. Trent’s claimed on more than one occasion that I was the strongest woman he knows.

He’s got it wrong though. Trent’s the strong one. He’s the one who always holds me together.

“What about this one?”

I look over to the scarf Destiny’s holding up. It’s a dark blue with yellow and turquoise flowers on it.

“I love the colors on that one. I’ll take it.”

With a smile filled with pride, Destiny drops the scarf into the basket beside the three others I’ve already picked out.

I grab a black one with yellow polka dots and finger the silky material, then set it back down when I realize I don’t really have any clothes to match it. I want to try and coordinate the scarves with my clothes so they match.

Noticing the awed look on Destiny’s face as she holds a purple scarf with unicorns on it, I step up beside her.

“That one’s pretty,” I comment. “Why don’t you ask your mom if you can have one and I’ll buy it for you?”

A laugh escapes me when Destiny yells her mom’s name.

“Jeez, child, I’m only a few feet away from you,” Ashlyn mutters, looking around in embarrassment. She mouths, “Sorry,” to a lady not far from us.

“Can I have this one? I wanna wear it and be like Ally.”

The irritation from Destiny screeching her name smoothly slides off her face. “Sure, sweetie.”

“Thanks!”

With a grin taking up her whole face, she drops the material in with the others.

Ashlyn smiles proudly at her daughter before she looks at me. “You want to grab some food after we leave here? We can pick something up for the guys too.”

“We can do that. But do you mind if we make a pit stop beforehand? There’s something I want to do first.”

Thirty minutes later, we walk into a stylish salon called Color Me Crazy. When Ashlyn’s family was over a few weeks ago, I remember Ellie, Ashlyn’s sister-in-law, and Kim, her cousin by marriage, mentioning they own a hair salon.

Walking inside, I fall instantly in love with the place. The walls are painted a beautiful pink with bright strips of white glitter. The salon chairs are white with silver accents. The frames of the mirrors are also silver. Everything looks so fresh and clean, and there’s soft music playing over the speakers.

Disappointment hits when I notice all the chairs are occupied and several people are waiting to be seen to.

I glance over to Ashlyn. “They look busy. Maybe we should come back another time.”

She opens her mouth to respond, but before she can, a loud squeal comes from across the room.
