“He is. Cooper is a damn good mechanic. Having him there lets me steal Jase away when I want. I’ve been spoiled the last few years working at the garage.”

I snort, smothering a fry in ketchup and tossing it in my mouth. “You’re fucking ridiculous, you know that, right? You’ve been together, what? Twenty-one years, and you can’t even go a day without acting like a horny teenager around Jase.”

“How is that a problem? And have you seen Jase?”

“Because the people around you have to watch that shit.”

“Again, how is that a problem? If it is, it’s not mine, it’s theirs.” He shovels in a mouthful of his cherry pie. “Besides, every time I’m around you and Ally, I see the way you look at her. Like she’s a bitch in heat and you’re a male dog waiting to mount her. It makes me want to gouge out my eyeballs.”

“Fucking crass, man.” I glare at him. “And that’s because you’re her dad. Seeing how much Ally affects me is supposed to piss you off.”

“Anyways, back to the point. Regardless of who is covering you, it’s taken care of. I want you gone in the morning to check on our girl.”

“My shit’s already packed and ready to go. I’ll be gone before the sun comes up.”

Relief relaxes Andrew’s features, and he slumps back in his seat with a muttered, “Good.”

I finish off my burger while he scarfs down his pie. Halfway through, he raises his hand for another slice. Maggie drops off his second helping and refreshes our coffees.

The bell over the door dings. Just as everyone else always does when someone enters the diner, Andrew and I look to see who it is. Sirena, my younger sister, walks in with Asa and Mason. Asa is Jaxon and Bailey’s son, and Mason is Nick and Chris’s. All three of them are seventeen and have been as thick as thieves since they were born. I’ve noticed, along with everyone else, their dynamic has changed over the last year. Both Mason and Asa have started to look at Sirena in a new light. I know neither of them would intentionally hurt my sister, but in a situation like theirs, I don’t see any of them coming out unscathed. For Asa and Mason’s sake, they better hope they get their shit straightened out quick, because I don’t relish the thought of knocking a teenage boy’s teeth down his throat.

“And everyone wonders why I’m into guys,” Andrew comments as we watch the three best friends take a booth on the other side of the diner. Sirena waves at us, and Asa and Mason lift their chins in acknowledgment. “It was enough dealing with Ally and her interest in you. Thank fuck there was only one horny teenage boy I had to watch.”

“I was a perfect gentleman, and you know it.”

Andrew gives me a “you’re not fooling me” look. “I’m not stupid, Trent. I know you and Ally fooled around before she became of age.”

“Maybe.” I shrug. “Maybe not. Either way, it’s none of your business.”

He looks back at Sirena, Asa, and Mason. “I’m surprised Mac hasn’t kicked their asses yet.”

“Oh, he’s threatened, and so have I. Multiple times. Asa and Mason are good boys.” I look back at the table and find both pairs of eyes on me. Sirena’s back is facing us, and as usual, she’s jabbering away. “They know the trouble they’ll have on their hands if they do anything they aren’t supposed to.”

“We’ll see,” Andrew says doubtfully. “Boys their age, no matter what sex they’re into, are horny little bastards. Mark my words, they’re both panting after Sirena and will have their greedy hands on her the minute she allows it.”

“Do you mind?” I shove my plate away from me and it hits Andrew’s coffee cup, sloshing some of the liquid over the edge. “We’re talking about my sister here.”

“Just telling it like it is. You should have seen me at their age. I was fucking any guy who’d let me stick my dick in them.”

“And that’s my cue to leave.” I toss my napkin on the table and get to my feet. Pulling out my wallet, I toss enough money on the table to cover my food and a tip. “The last thing I want to hear about is your sex-ploits.”

Andrew laughs, then slaps the table as he gets up too. He drops some money down beside mine.

We wave goodbye at Maggie as she serves another customer. My eyes meet Asa and Mason’s right before we walk out the door, and I shoot them a silent message that they better behave.

“I expect a call from you when you see Ally. I want to know what’s really going on with her. This helping her friend out is a bullshit excuse.”

Andrew may be outrageous and flamboyant, but his behavior does a one-eighty when it comes to Ally.

“You’ll know right after I find out myself.”

He claps me on the back. “Safe trip tomorrow.”

We split apart and move to our separate vehicles. I’ve just buckled my belt when my phone rings in my pocket. Pulling it out, I smile down at the screen.

“Hey, baby.”

“Hey back at you. What are you doing right now?”
