CHAPTER SIX

LILY - MIA

Ilay on the enormous bed and try to wind down. I've learned basically nothing about them, or even about the upcoming wedding ceremony. A big part of me is kicking myself for going for a pleasant tour of the grounds with Fabien.

I should’ve channeled my inner Mia and been catty, or even rude. I should’ve kept him at a distance.

Ineeddistance.

He's not the type to share information with his fiancé that he barely knows. Fabien is definitely smarter than that. In fact, if I hadn't seen him drenched in someone's blood, I'd find him downright charming. Gentle, unassuming. Gorgeous.

And…kind of rough in ways I’m starting to like.

Who wouldn't want to spend some time with him?

God, what am I saying? Tentacles…he hastentacles!

I'm losing my mind, that's what.

And these daydreams… I’ve never had fantasies so intense. The things Fabien does to me in them…I’d never imagined them being done to someone.

But when he did them to me, it feltverygood. Like being licked and sucked all over my body while something thick and smooth pounded inside me.

I take a deep breath. It was just a dream.

Besides, I’m dying to know what they were talking about in the drawing room. They must have gone over some details with my "father" about everything that’ll happen. What the hell am I supposed to do to get ready for this mountain god thing Fabien was telling me about?

If no one can tell me about it, how am I supposed to be ready?

And what else don't I know?

Finally, I can't handle it anymore. I go for the door that joins my room and Olivia's. The doors are super old, and the doorknobs don't have any locks, so I have to assume it just opens. I just hope she isn't crashed out sleeping or I'll feel like a real jerk waking her up.

I open the door slowly.

Olivia isn't in the bed.

"Olivia?" I whisper.

I hear sniffling, and I let myself the rest of the way in. Olivia is sitting by the window, hurriedly wiping tears from her eyes. She looks up at me, haughty and angry, and glares.

"How about some fucking privacy?" she asks.

"I know! I'm sorry. I just wanted to talk, but...hey, are you okay?"

"Yeah," she says, sarcastically. "I'm great."

I know I should probably go and leave her be, but I can't. Olivia has done a lot for me, and I may not be her sister, but I'm pretending to be. I don't have the first clue how Mia would act in this situation, but I know I want to be there for Olivia if she needs me.

We're all in danger here. We're all at risk.

Zedona and Olivia should be out of harm's way pretty soon. As soon as the wedding is over, I'll be starting my life here as Fabien's wife -- God, how crazy is that? -- and they'll be heading home like family always does after things like that.

But for now, we're all in this together.

I sit next to her and drape an arm across her shoulders. Olivia blows her nose and tries to shake me off, but I hold firm.

"Stop that," I tell her. "Do you want to talk about it?"
