“Probably not. I have classes tomorrow and then work,” I say glumly.

“Is there any way I can convince you to stay for an hour and then maybe we could leave?” He loops his index finger through my jeans belt loop and pulls me closer.

The lyrics:In your head, in your head

Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie

What’s in your head, in your head

Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie,is still pounding through the air making me feel like I’m at a foggy rave, and Hudson and I are doing something almost illicit, but so good at the same time. He feels illicit, like drugs coursing through my veins.

I stare too deeply into his dark eyes because I almost feel a chill running down my spine staring at how green they are. He’s too handsome. Sometimes, it feels like a cruel joke to be able to breathe in the same space as him.

“I’m afraid not. I really have to wake up early.”

“Well, I’ll see you whenever we’re both free. Love you.” He kisses me one last time and then leaves a small peck on my nose before exiting the bathroom and disappearing back into the surge of the party.

I want him to come back and beg me to spend time with him instead, but he doesn’t even cast a glance at me.

Feeling a little sore from our session, I leave to find Lex and find her dancing next to a guy, clearly flirting as she runs her hands along his sweaty abdomen.

I won’t remind her that she’s still supposedly dating “Kyle”, because she should be able to tell right from wrong on her own and I don’t really feel like bursting her happy party bubble, so I leave theThetasorority apartment and grab a cab home.

Our street is virtually empty when I get home and the night is cool on my skin. It feels clean and breathable, better than being stuck in the frat apartment stuffed to the max with students.

I take the rickety elevator ride up pretty quickly, eager to jump right into bed, but when I reach our floor and head towards our apartment, I can see something is off with our door.

It’s not locked like it was when we left and it’s hitting against the doorframe by some force of energy. Probably wind, but I know we closed the apartment door before we left. Immediately, my skin grows cold with goosebumps. Something’s very wrong. I push the door open with my foot and stare straight into the darkness of our apartment.

“If anyone’s in there, you’d better show yourself before the cops get here,” I say loudly.

There’s nothing but silence and the howling wind. Switching on the torch on my phone, I shine the light into the entrance and can see nothing moving. A gust of wind blows in and a chill crosses my spine.

“Hello?”

“Is everything alright, dear?”

I turn around to see Mrs. Burns, our old neighbor, and landlady peeking her head around the corner of her door.

“Hey, Mrs. Burns, I just got home and the door was open. Did you see or hear anything?”

“I don’t think so, Parker. I thought you girls were in tonight,” she says. “I did hear some loud sounds when I came from my round of bingo with Brenda down the hall, but I thought it was you girls. Should I call the police?”

“I think that would be a good idea, thanks,” I say and she quickly shuffles back into her apartment building to make the call.

Meanwhile, I take a deep breath and go into the apartment. When I near the light switch, I turn on the lights and find the curtains fluttering wildly even though the living room windows aren’t open.

I quickly check Lex’s room but it’s quiet and undisturbed so I head over to my bedroom and push the door open and that’s when I scream. My pale walls are covered in dark red, my windows are open and the cold wind is blowing in.Its blood.

The blood is painted in wide letters spelling outLIARand my bed is stained with thick drops of it.

“Jesus Christ.”

My heart almost jumps out of my chest as I turn to see Mrs. Burns behind me, covering her mouth with her hand.
