St. Patrick’s Day

PARKER

It’s the 17th of March, St. Patrick’s Day and the streets of New York are alive with Irish bagpipe music and people dressed in crazy outfits. The parade started at 11:00 a.m. and even though it’s been hours since then, people are still drinking and partying.

Lex and I get a cab and head to theTheta Pisorority house where a party is being held in the Upper West apartment that we’ve been to several times before. It’s literally next to theXi Alphafrat house.

I’m wearing a dark green, cropped mesh top with a black bra underneath and high-waisted hippie-styled jeans and Lex is in a short green baseball dress that says I love St. Patty’s Day with dark green lipstick plastered across her lips. She loves going all out for parties.

I check my phone for any texts from Hudson but there are none. Just a new short video on his Instagram story of him chugging from a keg a few hours ago atTheta.

It’s been almost a month since he brought up the idea of me moving in with him and I haven’t yet decided to make any move.

And it’s also been almost a month since no weird phone calls so things are really looking up for us. Hudson and I are closer even though we don’t see a lot of each other because of his crazy class and work schedules, but the sex always makes up for it.

There are times I find myself obsessively checking my phone to see if there are any texts or missed calls from him to find nothing.

Sometimes I’m really disappointed with him and sometimes with myself for becoming too dependent on his affection, but I love him so things will work out. I know it will.

“Look at what I got for us earlier.” Lex reaches into the breast pocket of her dress.

She opens her hand to me and there’s a small white capsule laying in her palm.

“What is that?” I ask as the driver halts outside the apartment.

“Molly,” she whispers as she grabs my hand and places the pill in my hand. “You’ll feel fucking amazing. Try it, babe.”

“I don’t think—”

“No. Don’t think. Just take. It’s not harmful.” Lex leans into me and unscrews her water bottle before handing it to me. “Trust me. We won’t have long until graduation and then all of this comes to an end. Besides, it’s St. Pat’s day, we’re allowed to party for whatever reason.”

I am about to lecture Lex on what “St.Pat’s Day” is actually celebrated for and it’s not all about partying till you’re blackout drunk when I stop myself short and realize that she won’t really give a shit anyway. She’s already intoxicated.

Still unsure, I turn the pill over in my palm. “What will it do to me?”

“It’s Ecstasy babe, so what do you think?” Lex asks, winking at me.

I pop the capsule into my mouth and grab the bottle from her, chugging down a few gulps, before wiping my mouth with the back of my mind.

And then we get out of the cab and head up the concrete stairs and into the apartment with Miles Reece screening at the front door.

I only know Miles because he is one of Ryan’s friends and teammates. He’s medium height, easy on the eyes with sandy blonde hair, a lean physique, and pretty aquamarine eyes.

“Ladies.” Miles gives us a wink before placing bright neon pink Tyvek wristbands on our wrists. “Have a good night.”

“Thanks,” I say and stay back as Lex heads into the party. “How is Ryan doing? I haven’t really had the time to check up on him.”

“He’s doing okay. You should go and see him sometime.” Miles leans against the wall. “I miss seeing you at our games. Where are you hanging out these days?”

“Nowhere in particular actually. I’ve just been busy with classes and my internship. What about you?” I ask.

“I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be on the team. Coach is threatening to kick our asses off the team if we can’t keep our systems sober,” he explains with a small smile. “And law is being a pain in the ass.”

“Sounds tough.” I feel like the conversation is over so I start to walk away. “I’ll see you later Miles. It was good seeing you, though.”

“Hey, Parker,” he calls out.
