Michael moved around Sally to take Alexa’s hand. All his reservations and concerns about getting involved with her right now disappeared. He was consumed with the need to possess her, and the idea that some other man might come along and snag her from him and Chad killed him inside.
“Alexa, can we talk?” Michael asked. She looked up into his eyes. He could see her light blue eyes were glossy. Her lashes were thick and beautiful. She wore very little makeup and that face of hers was precious.
“No, she can’t. She’s working,” Sally chimed in when Mason slid off the stool and smiled down at Sally.
“Darlin’, why don’t you join my brother and I for a drink? I think your sister is big enough to handle this on her own, don’t you?” Mason suggested, and Michael saw Sally’s cheeks redden. Mason and Steven were very interested in Sally.
“It’s okay, Sally. I’m going on break now anyway. I can give them five minutes,” Alexa replied with a bit more confidence than her usual demeanor.
She began to walk away, and Michael looked at Chad who immediately followed her. Michael gave a wink to Mason as Steven placed his hand on Sally’s waist and whispered something into her ear.

Alexa tried to act nonchalant, but seeing Michael and Chad again reminded her of their kisses and affection. She had to remember that they hadn’t called her or told her why they ended the date abruptly. She had confided in Sally, and Sally just embarrassed her. Alexa was a grown woman. She may not have experience with men but she could fight this battle. She needed to take charge here. She couldn’t be a pushover.
She entered the hallway, fully aware that she walked a little sexier than usual because she’d dolled herself up tonight in case they showed up. Abruptly, she turned around to face them and nearly knocked right into Michael. The fierce expression on his face should have made her back down, but instead, something came over her.
“So start talking. I’ve got fifteen minutes and I’m only giving you a few of that fifteen.”
Both Chad and Michael stood in front of her, and both looked shocked at her attitude.
“First of all, darling, if I want to talk to you for the full fifteen minutes you got, then I damn well will.” Michael took a step toward her. She took a step forward and was toe-to-toe with him. “Thirty more seconds and your first minute of five is up.”
“Damn it, Alexa, we’re sorry we had to end the date early. Something with work came up and we’ve been involved with it since,” Chad chimed in. She looked him over and that was a stupid thing to do. The man was gorgeous. She swallowed hard. Perhaps they did have a good excuse and she was just insulted because she was having a great time with them. But they hadn’t called her even after that night. Two days later and now they arrive at Dixie Chix as if it was no big deal? Maybe they didn’t know too much about women or they were used to one-night stands. That made her belly quiver.
“Whatever, Chad. I really don’t have time for this. I had a great time, obviously you didn’t so if you’ll excuse me, I really need to get going.” She began to walk away when Michael grabbed her upper arm and pulled her toward him. She gasped and a moment later his arm was wrapped around her waist and he hoisted her up against him. She felt his thick, muscular thigh press between her thighs and the tight skirt she wore.
