Chapter 1

Brett

I stared at the blonde in front of me. Her skin was a deep bronze that suggested she lay in a toaster at least twice a week, and her hair color was everything but natural. As were her lips.

Did every woman have puffy lips these days? Plastic surgery was becoming way too accessible. I preferred my women natural.

“You don’t have any experience as an executive assistant,” I said.

“I worked as a receptionist at a big company,” she replied.

“No, I see that. But I need you to be able to handle the workload.”

“But it’s an internship,” she said. “You’ll teach me, right?”

I shook my head. “The internship is not so that you can learn how to be an EA. It’s so that I can see if I want you as my EA.”

She frowned. “I don’t understand,” she said. “Isn’t that what probationary periods are for?”

I sighed. “Not in this case. I’m sorry, but I don’t think you’re quite the right fit for the job.”

The blonde frowned, and I expected her to make some snarky remark. Instead, she scooped up the designer handbag at her feet and marched out of my office.

I sat back in my chair and sighed. So far, every one of them had been overconfident and underqualified, with the audacity to think I wouldn’t be able to tell the two apart. I had lost my sense of humor after the first girl. Was this what it was going to look like with all of them?

If I didn’t need an executive assistant, I would have sent the rest of them home. I didn’t have the patience to handle a string of bimbos, and I could think of a lot of better things to do with my time. It was a pity I had to go through this. Maybe I had to consider another route.

Before calling the next girl in, I stood up and cracked my knuckles. This was going to be a long day.

“I’m taking a short break, Susan,” I said to my secretary. “I’ll be back in fifteen minutes if you can have the next one ready.”

“How is it going?” Shane asked when I walked out of the interview room to take a break.

“Fuck, I’m so over it.”

Shane shrugged. “You insisted on doing the interviews yourself instead of letting HR handle it.”

“You know I need to know that my new executive assistant will be worth my time. I’m not going to let the idiots downstairs take care of it.”

Shane chuckled. “It’s gotta suck for a demigod such as yourself to be surrounded by us mortals.”

“Fuck you,” I said, but I was laughing. Shane knew just how to rile me up, but it was in a good way. It relieved the stress that amounted to every other area of my company.

Being the CEO of a major corporation wasn’t fun and games. It took hard work and little sleep to be sure that nothing fucked up. The reason I needed a new EA was so that I had another pair of eyes watching all the assholes that didn’t know how to do their jobs.

Was I anal about excellence? You bet I was. For a company as big as Loomis Industries to run smoothly, I needed everything in its place. Most of the people I worked with just didn’t seem to get how important it was.

“How many have you done?” Shane asked.

“Three,” I groaned.

He laughed. “You’ve only started, and you’re already pissed off.”

“They should have been more specific in that ad. They should have spelled out ‘no morons.’”

Shane shook his head. “Everyone out there would kill for your life. And you’re standing here complaining.”

“The grass is always greener, right?”

“So? Just fuck them then.”

“What?”

Shane shrugged. “If you can’t beat ’em, fuck ’em. That’s what I always say.”

Shane was a womanizer. He fucked around when he was bored, and he fucked around when he wasn’t. He surrounded himself with women who were willing to spread their legs, and he thought he had a perfect life.

Once upon a time, I had thought the same. In fact, I had done the same. If she was pretty, with a great pair of tits and long legs, I was all over her. I had fucked my way through my young life, and I had considered myself the King of Pussy.
