I strolled into the bathroom to pee. When I stepped out Hayden was sitting on the bed. There was anger and unhappiness in his eyes. I told him he can’t just marry anyone, he’s a billionaire. He’s fighting his immediate family so, he can be with me. I wrapped my arms around him. I felt his body quake against me.

I laid his head in my lap. “Hayden, you can’t marry me.”

He gained his composure. “Let’s go.”

I wasn’t going to argue with Hayden. We arrived at my apartment. I threw a few things in a bag. He asked me to bring the engagement ring. Thirty minutes later we were on his jet flying to Las Vegas. He was going to stick it to his family and marry me now. Vicky sent Hayden over the edge. We left on such short notice we didn’t have a flight attendant. I didn’t mind though, I took care of me and Hayden.

Somehow Hayden and I are meant to be. I love him and he loves me. Running away from each other does nothing but break our fragile hearts. We want to be together. Whatever the cost. Hayden smothered me with kisses. “Do you know how much I love you?”

“Yes.”

“I gave it up, baby.” He slammed half the glass of vodka down his throat.

“Hayden!”

“I had to. They wouldn’t let me have you too.”

His eyes were hollow. The lights were turned off. I was upset with Hayden for stepping down as CEO.

“Hayden, what are you going to do?”

“I don’t know right now. Nothing. I’m not broke.”

“Hayden, if you weren’t rich, we would live a modest life. I would be happy regardless.”

“Doesn’t matter. I told you I was born a billionaire. No one can take that from me. My grandfather saw to it. However, I lost my passion.”

I walked Hayden to the bedroom. I let him get some sleep. His sister was calling. She’d been calling every two minutes.

So, I answered his phone. “Hello.”

“You! You did this. You fucking bitch!”

“What did I do? Make your brother fall in love with me. Huh? We fell in love with each other. You broke him! How could you take what he cares about most from him?”

“My brother stepped down, to be with you. A two-bit whore, who shakes her ass in men’s faces. I will never respect you! I hope you are happy with yourself. You just gained yourself half of a man. He’s nothing without Gaster Investments.”

Her words slapped me in the face.

I stood up straight in the aisle. “That’s where you are wrong. He can and will create his own investment company. All the superstar clients your company have are because of Hayden. When you are ready to grovel back and apologize for disrespecting his fiancé and soon to be wife, then just maybe I can persuade him to talk to you again.”

I disconnected the call.

“Fuck her!” I grunted.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

HAYDEN

Look where trying to be nice to my sister got me. I wanted her to leave me alone about Lydia. She fucking verbally attacked me while Lydia was in our presence. Showed no fucking respect for her. I learned to never judge a book by its cover. What sent her over the edge was learning Lydia met Sebastian before her. Lydia was hot when she stormed out of the bathroom. I wanted to run after Lydia, but Vicky stood in front of me yelling. I called Val sent him looking for Lydia.

I lost it. I couldn’t contain what I was feeling inside for my woman. Lydia running around hiding who she is to my family, fuck it, no more, I thought.

I turned to Vicky. “I’m getting married.”

“What!”

Yes, I’m marrying Lydia. I love her!”

“Again Hayden, how long have you known her?”

“Not long but it doesn’t matter. She is a college student at Georgia State University. She attends school on a full scholarship. So, what she didn’t go to Yale or Harvard. Sebastian, was impressed with her and wants to give her a job once she graduates this summer.”

“Oh, please you are just as crazy as Sebastian running around after some woman. At least Sydney graduated from Princeton!”

“I’m done talking.”

“No.” She folded her arms. “I’m waiting.”

“Waiting for what?”

“The rest of the story. Where did you meet her?”
