“He’s mine,” the woman said.
“I can’t remember your name, is it Missy?”
“Misty!” She yelled her name. “My name is Misty and it is not so hard to remember.”
Betty saw the knife in the other woman’s hand, and she knew this was not a mistake. This was very much real. She had to not panic.
“Okay, Misty, that’s your name. I’m sorry, I thought I heard others call you Missy.”
“They call me what they think they’re allowed to call me, but it is not true. None of it is true. What does he see in you?” She held up her knife. “I have offered him everything and yet, he comes crawling back toward you, and for what? What do you have that I don’t?”
“You want Grim.”
“You’re not one of us. You’re not supposed to have him. He is not yours.”
She lunged and Betty ran across the room. She knew her aunt’s house better than anyone else. She’d been living here a long time.
Betty ran out of the kitchen, going through to the sitting room. She had somehow managed to drop her knife, and she looked around, finding books and ornaments, which she threw in Misty’s direction as the other woman came at her with a knife.
She managed to push some furniture in her way, and then, as she came charging out toward her, Betty rushed outside, and with Misty chasing her, she held the door still, so that she ended up going through the glass. She cried out and felt guilty, rushing toward her, hoping it would make sense, but then Misty started to attack her, and Betty was on the floor, with Misty on top. The knife was between them. Betty cried out as the blade nipped her shoulder, and then she was able to push Misty off.
Just as she was about to reach for the blade, Maeve was there, grabbing Misty by the hair and pulling her off. Nancy was there as well. Along with Grim, the sheriff, and Doc. She also noticed Mac, Savage, Charlotte, and even Razor as well as a couple of other people from the club. Betty was shocked that even her own mother was there. What surprised her even more was the fact her mother actually looked worried.
“What happened?” Betty asked.
Grim cupped her cheek and led her into the house as they took care of the rest. “Martha believed your mother was responsible for burning down your studio.”
“What?”
“It wasn’t her,” Grim said. “It was Missy.”
“Misty,” Betty said. “Her name is Misty, and I’m guessing she is a little obsessed with you.”
“Because I didn’t want her and I kept refusing her. She didn’t like it, and this is what happened.”
Betty laughed. “I can’t believe this is happening,” she said.
He cupped her face. “Look at me, Betty. Are you okay?”
She nodded. “Yeah, I’m okay, it is just a lot to take in. Misty wanted you, and you were with me, so she burned down my studio?” She frowned.
“Oh, my ... word,” Martha said, suddenly coming crashing into her own home. “I heard everything, honey. Are you okay?”
Betty pulled her cell phone out of her pocket, and she ended the call. “Yeah, I’m okay. I think I’m okay.” She frowned. “Do I look okay?”
“You’re beautiful,” he said.
Betty smiled at him. “You’re only saying that because you feel guilty.”
“No, I’m saying that because it is the truth, and I want you to marry me,” Grim said.
Betty’s mouth fell.
“What?”
“I want you to marry me, as soon as possible,” he said. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Betty Jackson. I want you to belong to me and me alone. I want to grow old with you. Have kids with you. I want it all with you.”
Betty laughed. “You’re not kidding.”
