“You got any way of finding out why she’s in town?” Grim asked.
“To see her daughter?”
Grim burst out laughing. “Yeah, that is not the reason. Trust me, she has absolutely no interest in seeing her daughter. If she did, it would make for a much better and titillating conversation.”
He didn’t like her. It was as simple as that.
His phone buzzed, and he looked down to see it was Betty texting to say she was done for the day. They were heading into town and the grocery store to go shopping. The preparations were already underway for Thanksgiving, which was happening that Thursday. Betty had wanted to get most of her shopping done, but they’d been behind schedule, which was entirely his fault.
“I’ve got to go,” Grim said.
“I’ll look into it. Do you think she is here to cause trouble?” Doc asked.
“I don’t know if she is here to cause trouble, or make Betty’s life hell. Either option, I want her gone,” Grim said.
“You and Betty, is this getting serious?”
Grim turned to look at his prez and nodded his head. “Yeah, it is.”
“How serious?” Doc asked.
“She’s the only woman I want to be with. It’s that kind of serious.”
“And does Betty feel the same way?” he asked.
Grim stared at Doc and then he shrugged. “I don’t know.” He was not about to have a deep and meaningful conversation with his prez over his feelings for Betty.
Without another word, he turned on his heel and made his way out of the clubhouse. He didn’t go to his bike, but used the car, climbing behind the wheel. It had snowed, and it was cold as fuck. He immediately put the heating on, and he drove slowly on the way to Betty’s home.
The moment he arrived, Betty stepped out of the door and rushed toward the car. She climbed in and smiled at him, creating those cute little dimples he absolutely adored. He reached for her hand and pulled her in close, taking possession of her lips, kissing her.
“You’re beautiful,” he said. He’d missed her.
Betty’s cheeks were a nice bright red. “You’re not too bad yourself.”
This made him laugh because Betty was slowly getting out of her comfort zone, and he was making sure he was the one to make that happen. Pulling away from the curb, he headed toward the supermarket.
“How was filming?” he asked.
“Long. Mother kept interrupting, and even when I told her she had to stop, I think she did it on purpose.”
“Fucking bitch,” he said. Betty was very much aware of the fact he didn’t like her. “Do you have any idea why she’s here?”
“I’ve talked to Aunt Martha, and she doesn’t know. It’s not like Mom to just drop in.”
“I heard she never even dropped you off when you were little?”
She shook her head. “No, it was either a nanny, or I was sent by myself.”
“By yourself?”
“Well, in a taxi, or a driver would take me.”
Grim shook his head. The more he heard about Bettina, the more he disliked her. In fact, there was absolutely nothing to like about the evil, fucking witch. They arrived at the grocery store, and he was able to squeeze his way into a parking space. However, this required him to get Betty to step out of the car. Once he was parked, he climbed out and beeped the car closed.
It was busy as fuck. “Did you have any idea it was going to be like this?” he asked.
“It’s Thanksgiving,” she said. “Of course it is going to be busy. I’m hoping we didn’t wait too long.” She nibbled her lip.
