“A guy that is just being nice doesn’t sleep with you. What he would do is offer to drop you off some place, so doctors can help you.”
Betty smiled.
“You’ve got a crush?” Martha asked.
“Stop,” Betty said, with a laugh. “You’re going to embarrass me. You know I’ve never ... well, you know I’ve never been with a man. I don’t know the first thing I’m doing, and I don’t want to ruin what I’ve got with Grim.”
“My lips are sealed,” Martha said.
“Why don’t I believe you?”
“Because I am a meddling older woman who knows best for everyone, including you and Grim.”
Betty laughed. “That has got to be the reason.” She moved toward her aunt and kissed her on the cheek. “Good morning, and I’m going to get ready for work.”
Chapter Seven
Grim did a full sweep of the parks, the perimeter, and several of the properties for any signs of product distribution. The Chaos Monsters MC were not going to allow the chance for drugs, or the enemy to get into their home.
Rivermont Ridge was safe. The sheriff and Doc were once again working together. The safety of the people of Rivermont Ridge was a priority, which was why he had to go to Betty’s after two in the afternoon, rather than first thing in the morning, when he wanted to.
He’d woken up this morning to banging on his door by Vitro, telling him Doc wanted to see him. His bed had been empty. The only sign of Betty was her witch’s costume in his laundry basket. This pissed him off. When did she sneak off? It had to have been early, or at some point through the night. He didn’t like this, as usually he was a light sleeper. He’d also fallen asleep with Betty in his arms, and there shouldn’t have been a way for her to escape from his grip, yet she had.
Now, as he parked his bike, he was still angry, and he went to the main door to bang his fist on it, only it opened, and he didn’t get to bang his fist on anything. Martha answered the door, and he found his anger subsided almost instantly.
“Martha,” he said.
“Grim.”
“Where’s Betty?” he asked.
“In her studio.”
He turned to look toward the side of the house. The garage was set back from the house and had to have the double fence opened to get in.
“Thanks,” he said, intending to do that.
“Before you go and argue with my niece, come in here and talk to me,” she said.
He wanted to give her a gazillion excuses, but none of them seemed worthwhile. Instead, he gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, and entered the main house. Martha closed the door and walked across the hall. Every now and then, she did still use a walking aid. When Andy was here, she used it often. From what he learned, Andy would find some way to make her trip and fall, and he forced her to use the aid.
Martha entered the kitchen and stood by the coffeepot. “Coffee?” she asked.
He was not interested in drinking coffee. He wanted to go and talk to Betty. There was no way it was acceptable, her sneaking off. How did she even get home? If he heard she walked, he was going to spank her ass. He didn’t even know if her taking a taxi was ideal at this point. He was pretty pissed off. There was nowhere safe right now.
There was one big danger after another, and the thought of her being in danger pissed him off. He didn’t want her hurting. He quickly nodded his head, because he needed to calm down before he scared her to death. She was a full-grown woman who could do whatever the hell she liked. He needed to remember that.
“Would you like some creamer? Betty made it. She does not like when I insist on buying the stuff. We end up in the aisle with Betty trying to read the ingredients, and she says there is no way you should be putting stuff you don’t understand or can’t even pronounce in your body.”
This made him smile. “She’s looking out for you.”
“Yes, she is, and that is why I am about to tell you that Betty likes you, and I also want to point out to you that she is a virgin,” Martha said.
Grim looked toward Martha. This was not the topic of conversation he was expecting.
“Okay,” he said.
“Okay? That is all you’ve got to say on the matter?” Martha asked.
