“But, it’s not a slow number.”

“So?”

“Don’t you think it’s wrong to dance slowly while everyone is dancing so fast?” she asked. He held her, and she liked the way he touched her. She was finding it hard to focus on anything else.

“You’ve got to relax. Let me help you right now.”

“You’re making me nervous,” she said, admitting the truth.

“Good.” He put his hands on her waist, but only after he’d placed her hands on his shoulders.

“People are staring.”

“Do I look like I give a fuck what other people are thinking right now, or who they’re staring at?”

“It must be nice,” she said.

“It is. Look at me, and all the other bullshit just fades away, we’ve got each other.”

She stared right at him, and at first nothing faded away, and then slowly, it was like they were the only two people on the dance floor.

“Are you still panicking?” he asked.

She shook her head. “No, this is actually nice.”

“You know, the girls are good women. You’d like them.”

“I do like them, Grim. Honestly, I think they’re great. I’ve known Eden for a long time. Maeve and Charlotte are great. I’m not exactly sure how they’re all friends with Nancy being the ex and the mom.”

Grim chuckled. “It works for them, and trust me, Nancy and Doc were not good together.”

“I like them all. I think I also see Kristin as well. I’ve always been a little awkward, with absolutely everything. I don’t make friends easily.”

“I’m here and I’m your friend.”

“You helped me.”

“And I’m still hanging around. Trust me, I have a feeling if the club knew how good you could cook, I’d struggle to get a look in.”

This made her smile. “You’re just saying that.”

“Honey, I know the guys at the club and they are ruled by their stomachs. That is not going to change. You bring a cake around, and I reckon you’ll have guys showing up for food. How does that sound?”

“Honestly, it sounds terrifying but also a little exciting. I kind of like the thought of something like that. I do love to feed people.”

He pulled her a little closer, and she had to tilt her head to be able to look at him.

“What?” she asked.

“Just remember who saw you first.”

Was he flirting with her? She didn’t flirt with men. She wasn’t exactly close to anyone but her aunt. There was quite the age difference between her aunt and herself.

This, she could handle. Slowly. She liked Grim, he was a good guy.
