Yeah… He pulled into the fire house and parked his truck. Then he circled the hood to help her down out of the cab. “Your truck isn’t that tall,” she muttered, but she let him lower her down.
Then he kissed her, because it was what he had been thinking about doing for the past couple of hours, since he’d kissed her the last time. She responded eagerly, as if she’d been waiting for it as well. When he drew back, her eyes had gone dark with need.
It was too soon for this. Wasn’t it?
“What do you say we go take a shower, then meet in the rec room. We can watch some TV or something. Or, if you’re tired, you can go to bed.”
She gave him a little wink. “Let me see how tired I am after the shower.”
“Okay.”
Connor watched her walk down the hallway, wondering what the hell he’d gotten himself into.
CHAPTER 8
Sex with an amputee was not like sex with another, regular limbed person.
Olivia scrubbed her stump, shaking her head at how easy everything used to be. Her body had been hers to do with as she pleased. Walking across the room had been like breathing. She didn’t have to worry about mobility or limbs awkwardly falling off at inopportune times. Not that hers would, it was just a nightmare she’d had before. The carbon fiber used to make the limb was usually ice cold, so wrapping it around a guy’s hips could have a dampening effect on … things.
She was still trying to figure out which created less of an issue, leg on or leg off. Leg on, it was dead and didn’t move or do anything. She couldn’t point her toes to slide them sexily down her other calf. It meant having a shoe in bed. It threw the whole aesthetic off.
But it was her. Her leg, her body, just her. And if people couldn’t accept that, well…
Olivia realized she was building all these arguments in the expectation he would be grossed out or put off or something. Connor had seen and done many things, and she doubted her leg was bad enough to put him off.
Leg issue notwithstanding — no pun — she would climb into bed with him in a heartbeat.
So, that’s what she decided to do.
Finishing up in the shower, she shifted to the toilet seat and dried off, then hopped back to the bedroom. Digging through her suitcase, she found the pretty little hunter green bra and the matching panties. Not her normal cotton stuff. Baylee had talked her into buying it on their last shopping trip, and she was glad she’d spent the money, now.
Fitting her leg, she decided to just out it. She pulled a pair of tan canvas shorts on, and a t-shirt, then slipped her shoe on. The prosthetic always had a shoe on, so she had to wear the second, otherwise her back would feel it. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and walked out.
Connor was in the kitchen, staring up at the microwave as it worked. Olivia could smell and hear popcorn cooking, and her mouth watered. They’d eaten a good bit of food today, but popcorn sounded perfect, if they could find a good movie.
It was obvious he’d showered. His dark hair curled around his ears and his t-shirt looked damp on the back, like he hadn’t dried off completely before jerking it on. He wore a pair of jean shorts as well, and he looked good out of uniform, she thought with a smile. Nice, strong, hairy legs. He looked spectacular in uniform as well, but the laid-back look suited him.
“That smells good,” she told him, drawing attention to herself. “I’m not incredibly hungry, but a little snack will be perfect.”
Connor glanced over his shoulder at her, smiling a little. “Yeah, that’s what I was thinking.”
He turned back to the microwave as it beeped, pulling the bag from it. “Mind if I doctor it a little?”
“Go ahead,” Olivia said, wondering why she felt a little put out. Had he even noticed her leg was exposed?
Connor poured the popcorn into a big yellow bowl, then reached for some spices in the spice cupboard.
“Mrs. Dash? Really?”
He gave her a grin. “Trust me.”
Then he added some garlic powder and salt. Olivia reached in and took a handful, tossing it back. Flavors burst on her tongue, and she blinked up at him in surprise. “That’s really good!”
“What do you want to drink?”
Olivia opted for water, and he did as well, then he led her from the kitchen and into the rec room. Olivia had glanced in here before but hadn’t really explored it. She supposed that there was a lot of downtime for fire fighters. There was a huge TV on one wall, as well as a stereo system. In the console beneath the TV, she could see a couple of different gaming systems, and there were miscellaneous controllers laying around the room. A giant brown sectional dominated the room, though, L shaped and made for lazing. Matching recliners flanked the couch, and they looked comfortable as well.
Connor set the bowl of popcorn onto the coffee table, then dropped to the couch, kind of in the middle. Olivia sat down next to him, reaching for more popcorn. Grabbing a remote, Connor started flipping through channels. “What do you like to watch?”
