“That asshole is going to die, I promise you that.” I hold her gaze and make a silent promise like this as well–Dario will pay for what he did. Lana thanks me by flashing me a smile.
Oh my God.
How beautiful.
“What did you do to him?” Thank fuck for Oliver otherwise, I’d have done something stupid. Lana shakes her head as if she’s snapping herself out of some trance.
“I shot him in the stomach, sliced his spine open, and pushed a cleaver through his neck.”
Adam and Sara freeze. She stops tracing circles on his chest, and Adam lets out a low whistle, tightening his grip around her waist out of reflex rather than affection.
On the couch, Josh leans forward, elbows on his knees. “...Jesus.”
Oliver is in awe. He barks out a laugh, rubbing a hand over his jaw before throwing her a thumbs-up. "That's amazing."
“Damn,” Hana says in awe.
I still haven’t moved. My gaze is sharpened, not with anger, but with recognition. My eyes linger on her a second longer than before… I’m impressed as well.
“You did all that...” I gulp. “…alone?”
“Yes?” she asks as if what she did was unreasonable.
“I would have done the same. Now.” I clasp my hands together. “Do you know anything else?”
“Yes.” Lana moves her mouth side to side, as if she’s thinking about how to tell us what she knows. Some time passes, and she throws her hands up, coming to terms with the fact that she can’t lie to us.
“After my father died, I kept all of his notes. He always told me that they were his most prized possessions. I couldn’t bring myself to read them, but after Emin got shot, I got the feeling I had to.” She composes herself before she continues. “I looked through them, and I wish I’d have done that earlier.”
“Why?” I ask her.
“My father was very cryptic before he died about some hits and Emin urged me to read through them.”
“I’m getting nervous,” I tell her.
“You should. He mentioned places Dario frequented.” I don’t fucking like this. How did Leon know all of that? That’s something to figure out later.
Lana first.
“He gave addresses for all, except for one…a house in Marijin Kutak.”
“The fancy ass neighborhood?”
“Yes.”
No.
No.
No.
Absolutely not.
While my team and Lana are talking about what she knows, I tune out their voices and think about that place.
My father bought all the houses in Marijin Kutak and let his top lieutenants live there. There were whispers about that place; even the assassins in his organization didn’t know about it.
But I did. I knew about that place because I overheard my father talking to his right-hand man, Evan, about Marijin Kutak. My interest was piqued, and I started eavesdropping. Dario talked about how one house belonged to him. Before I could hear which house he resided in, I heard someone coming. I bolted the fuck out of there.
