Our train of thought is interrupted by Oliver standing up. “Look guys, it’s late, and Josh and I have an early morning tomorrow.”
“He’s right. We got that job in Milan.” Josh backs Oliver up. A couple of days ago, we got a request on a hit. The rival of a bigwig investor needs to be taken out.
“We also need to go. Hana, do you want us to give you a ride?” Sara asks my cousin, and she confirms that she will.
I escort my friends out, but Sara lingers in the doorway.
“Do you have time tomorrow?”
“For what?” I rack my brain to think if we made any plans.
“I found her.”
“Who?” I am clueless about whom she is referring to.
“I found the girl who will make you realize that you did something right.”
No.
No.
She couldn’t have found her.
“She doesn’t want to talk to me. I know it. And how did you find her?” My curiosity is piqued, just like my anxiety.
“With good luck. I was on a date with Adam at this cute place, and I recognized her. I asked her if she was willing to talk to you, and she was.”
“What the fuck, Sara! Maybe she wasn’t up for it.”
“No, she really wants to see you.” That’s a fucking relief because she probably hates me.
Especially since I killed her father right in front of her eyes.
Chapter twenty-four
Lana
My attempt to clean myself up is not perfect, but it’ll have to do.
I walk into the hospital and to the designated family area. The only thing I have with me is my phone. I pick it up and make a call to guard Delta nine-seven—Senad.
“How is Emin doing?” I love that his first question is how his boss is doing. Whenever I’m not around, Emin is the boss.
And he will still be that after he recovers.
“He is in surgery right now. I’ll stay in the hospital until they are done.”
“Do you want me to come over?” Kindness. Just what I need now, yet I reject it.
“Hold the fort. You are in charge until I come back. I’ll keep you updated.”
“Hey, Lana?”
“Yes?”
“He’ll pull through. He is strong.” I hang up.
He is right. Emin is strong, and he will pull through. I refuse to believe that he’ll die. He just can’t. And the feel of this waiting room isn’t helping me at all.
