“You were a good boy today, and good boys get rewarded.”
It’s like a switch in him. He goes from playful boyfriend to predator in a matter of seconds. His lips curve into a slow, wicked line, his eyes darkening as they track the pulse ticking at the base of my throat. My joy has reached new levels, and the anticipation is killing me.
Then he puts one foot forward, and I feel the adrenaline hit me with full force.
I love this man.
“Run, little hummingbird.”
THE END
Epilogue
Noa
Ten years later
“Come on!” I yell at Lana as we take shelter behind the couch. She crawls over to me and wipes the sweat from her forehead. Even now, she looks beautiful. My wife always does.
“Do you have your weapon loaded?” she asks as she inspects my gun. For a moment, I can’t answer her. Fuck, she is beautiful. My little hummingbird’s eyes are still my favorite things to look at.
“Noa! Focus!” She snaps her fingers in my face. “Our enemies surround us!” I regain focus and put my hand on hers.
“My weapon is locked and loaded. I see that you have your arrows and bow ready?” My voice drops to a whisper as I don’t want our two enemies to hear us. Strategy. Lana puts one arrow in her bow and tightens it. Ready to shoot.
“Noa,” she says incredulously because I am staring at her again. “Are you seriously checking me out right now?”
“Yes.” Lying is still something I absolutely hate, so I don’t bother.
“They are almost here, and we might lose. We have to get our heads together.” Lana is adorable when she is in her element. My wife is always gorgeous, but she is majestic when she needs to take out our opponents. My lips find hers, and I give her a soft peck. I knew this would do the trick as she melts into our kiss.
“Give me a moan, please.” I sound like I am begging, and I am. My body will always yearn for her. My wife breaks away from our kiss, and I instantly feel deserted. When she sees the defeat in my eyes, she playfully smacks my cheek.
“You dog,” she says, her tone playful.
“Woof, woof.” The barking for her also hasn’t changed.
“We are coming, and we will win!” Fuck. I tighten my grip on my gun, and Lana does with her bow. The footsteps coming from the stairs are loud, almost heavy, and trained. Our foes have been trained by the best—Lana and me. And that’s why we’re fucked.
“We’re going to fucking lose, little hummingbird,” I tell her. She whips her head towards me and gives me a stern look.
“Watch your tongue, Noa!”
“I want to do something else with my tongue.” Oh God, flirting with her will never be boring.
“You are incredible.” Lana’s exasperated sigh makes me grin from ear to ear. But she’s right. We need to get our ducks in a row; otherwise, we are going to be decimated. The footsteps are coming closer, oh so quiet. The sun is shining, so every shadow is visible, just like those of the two approaching us. Lana notices this as well, and she nods at me.
Showtime.
I stand up so fast that I startle our opponents.
“Hands in the air,” I order them. Lana stands up as well and points her bow at them. They’re not stupid, of course not, so they divide and conquer. The smaller one points her bow at Lana, while the other one keeps his gun focused on me.
Smart.
“We will drop it, but not before you do. Right, Mia?” he asks his little sister without taking his eyes off me. I quickly glance over to Mia, and she is in a stare-off with Lana. Her eyes are narrowed, and her stance is steady. Even at that age, she is terrifying. Just like…
“Now, Leo!” Mia yells at her brother. The moment she raises her voice, I know we’re done. Or, we like them to believe that they are.
