“Come on,” Dean says, getting to his feet. “Let’s leave them alone and play pool.”
The men move toward the pool tables, leaving us to our drinks. Conversation quickly picks up as we down two shots each and order espresso martinis in a poor attempt at pacing ourselves.
“So, you and Logan never took things any further?” I ask Mallory once the alcohol gives me enough courage.
“Absolutely not.” She laughs and shakes her head. “He’s basically my brother.”
Mallory turns toward Georgie, raising her eyebrows over her glass.
“She’s the one with history.”
I look at Georgie. “You’ve been holding out on me.”
“Fucking traitor.” Georgie throws a napkin at Mallory. “Yes, Logan and I dated in high school. That’s it. End of story.”
“Is that the version we’re going with?” Rory asks.
“It’s the only version you’re getting,” Georgie replies before draining the rest of her drink.
Her gaze flicks toward Logan across the room before she quickly looks away.
Something tells me their story didn’t end as neatly as she wants us to believe.

Several drinks later, my pleasant buzz has developed into a definite sway.
We eventually join the guys near the pool tables, and when a Zach Bryan song comes through the speakers, Georgie, Mallory, Rory and I take it upon ourselves to dance beside the table and use the pool cues as microphones.
The entire time, I can feel someone watching me.
Not someone.
Dean.
I know because I’m watching him too.
“Well, I’m spent,” I announce, giving everyone a hazy smile. “I think I’m going to head home.”
“BOOOOO, YOU WHORE!” Georgie yells.
The entire group turns toward her.
“Sorry. Tequila does that to me.” She presses a hand to her stomach and winces. “And on that note, I’m gonna go throw up.”
Georgie rushes toward the bathrooms, and Logan immediately follows her.
Interesting.
Mallory catches my eye. “We’ll make sure she gets home safely.”
“How are you getting home?” Dean asks, stepping beside me.
“Umm…” I consider my options. “Walk?”
He stares at me. “Absolutely not. I’m driving you.”
Dean starts toward the exit, clearly expecting me to follow.
