Her shoulders relax slightly.
From the back seat, Aspen lets out a dramatic sigh. “Can we go inside now? I’m hungry.”
“Patience, Pen,” I tell her.
“But Grandma made pot pie.”
Blair glances at me. “She makes a compelling argument.”
The second we walk through the front door, Aspen takes off to find everyone. The smell of Mom’s chicken pot pie reaches us from the kitchen as I take Blair’s coat and hang it near the door.
She looks around the foyer, her eyes wide. “This place is ridiculous.”
I laugh quietly. Her reaction reminds me just how easily I take all of this for granted.
Mom enters the foyer with Aspen’s hand in hers.
“Blair, sweetheart,” she greets her warmly. “I’m so glad you came.”
“Thank you for having me,” Blair replies with a smile.
Mom gives me her signature look.
“Of course,” she says. “Although, I have a feeling you were coming whether I invited you or not.”
“Mom,” I warn.
Blair laughs beside me. “That’s actually exactly how the invitation went.”
Fantastic.
Five seconds inside, and I’m already being exposed.
Dad walks in from the kitchen, grinning like the dick has been listening to everything.
“So, this is Blair.”
“Don’t start,” I tell him.
“I didn’t say anything.” Dad lifts his hands, pretending innocence.
“You were about to.”
Blair glances between us, clearly unsure what either of us is talking about.
Dad ignores me and steps forward. “It’s lovely to finally meet you, Blair. I’m Jack, Dean’s dad.”
He pulls her into a quick hug.
“I can see the resemblance,” Blair says with a laugh. “Thank you both for having me. Your home is beautiful.”
Before Dad can respond, Rory and Logan walk into the foyer.
Rory immediately hugs Blair and compliments her dress. Women somehow know how to do that without making it weird.
Logan takes a different approach.
“Blair Bear!” he shouts, scooping her off the floor.
