“It’s game day,” he mumbles into his pillow with his eyes still closed. His voice is so quiet and muffled, it’s possible he’s still asleep. Dreaming about hockey.
Unable to stop myself, I brush his hair off his forehead and enjoy the warmth of his skin underneath my palm.
His lips pull up at the corners into a lazy smile as his eyes open a sliver, still puffy from sleep. “I can’t believe we have to play each other today.”
“Believe it,” I say, resting my hand on his cheek. I brush my thumb across his plump bottom lip. “And get used to it. We will be playing against each other a lot.”
“Maybe not,” he says, leaning into my touch. He’s like Shutzie, but twenty times his size and just as adorable. “After tonight, we won’t see each other again until the post season. Assuming we both make it to the finals.”
I slide my hand off his cheek and drag it down his body to his waist. Once there, I swiftly tug him to me, causing him to yelp in surprise. “We will,” I say, before drawing our lips together for a quick kiss. “It will be Blizzards Mules rematch.”
“It’s gonna be embarrassing losing to us two years in a row.” He smirks and I tug him closer.
“You are mistaken. You are the one who is going to be embarrassed this year.”
“Is that so?” he asks as he brushes our lips together.
“Yes.” I kiss him harder. Between us, my cock begins to grow. Last night was blissful, and I’m dying to do it again, but I suppose that’s probably not the best idea. It is game day after all. “What time do you have to be back with your team today?”
“Morning skate is at ten.” He makes no attempt to pull away from me. In fact, he angles his hips so they come into contact with mine, his half-hard cock pressing against my thigh.
Reluctantly, I turn to look over my shoulder and reach with my hand to check the time. My phone says it’s eight thirty. That isn’t a lot of time.
He draws my attention back to him and nuzzles my neck. “I guess we will have to wait until tonight for round two.”
“Your team is not going to Dallas right after game?”
He shakes his head against my skin, tickling my neck with his breath. “No. We fly out tomorrow. Can I spend the night here again?”
“Your team will not mind?”
“My team won’t know,” he says, then chuckles softly. “Well, Gavin and Connor will. And Tavish, too, since I room with him. In fact, he’s probably freaking out since I never came back to the hotel last night. I bet he thinks you murdered me.”
I raise an eyebrow. “That can still happen.”
“I knew it!” His eyes open wide. “This has all been one long trick to get rid of me and clear your path to the cup!”
“You caught me,” I say, then kiss him again before letting him go. “Come on. We need to eat. I am not sending you to practice with empty stomach.” I throw the blanket off us and climb out of bed. From there I toss his clothes from last night at him then change into my gameday warm-up sweats.
Once in the kitchen, I start a pot of coffee then pull out some eggs, a green bell pepper, bacon and cheese so I can make him a quick omelet. It’s not the same as his mother’s cinnamon rolls, but this will be much better fuel for game day. I want him to be at his best when we play tonight.
“So,” he says as he takes a seat at the island. “I know we said sex was better than talking. And don’t get me wrong, it was. Way better. Especially considering I came here planning to tell you that you were right and there is no us and blah blah blah, stupid idea. But…”
“We still have more to talk about,” I say. I take a deep breath and hold it, steadying myself for what’s to come if he chooses right now to blow this all up.
“Yeah.”
I look up from scrambling the eggs. The expression on his face is earnest and full of quiet hope. Maybe he’s not about to pull the plug like he planned.
“I told you last night what I want,” I say. “Nothing has changed. I feel same today.”
“What about tomorrow?”
“Same answer.”
“What about when the playoffs hit?”
“Still same.”
