I find my keys.
Thank the Goddess.
I turn toward my car, but Coach steps closer.
Not touching me. But still, he is way too close for comfort. Close enough that I have to tip my head back to look at him.
“Come on. One date that ended with one kiss isn't enough for you to just write a guy off.”
A date and a kiss? Is that what we're calling it?
Personally, I would've gone with I bought my own coffee, and you followed it up with an unsolicited facial tongue bath, but tomato, tomahto I guess.
“It wasn't that—”
His smile disappears.
“What then?”
Oh, Goddess. Why did I say that?
Abort. Abort immediately.
“I just don't think we're compatible.”
“We're both Shifters.”
“I'm a Witch.”
“Whatever. You work with Shifters.”
Wow. Be still, my heart.
“Coach, I really need to get home.”
I reach for my car door. His hand lands on the roof above it. Effectively blocking me from opening it.
My stomach twists. I stop.
“Move your hand, please.”
“Maggie, would you relax?”
Relax.
Because nothing makes a woman relax faster than a man telling her to relax while preventing her from getting into her own car.
“I'm perfectly relaxed.”
Lie.
Huge lie.
My heart is beating too fast. Then something changes. Not outside. Inside me. A little hum runs beneath my skin.
Warm.
Familiar.
