What’s happening.
What…happened.
The blurry sight of an unknown blonde with her knees tucked to her chest so that her chin can rest on them isn’t what I’m expecting.
Although, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Just not this.
This never crossed my mind as a possibility.
Either she’s the most chill nurse possible or she’s in the wrong room.
“Can you see me?” cautiously asks the female at my hospital bedside.
Ohno.
Is she not real?
Am I still dreaming?
Was I dreaming before?
I had to be right.
That was a dream, so maybe…this is a dream?
Unless angels are real?
Can they be real?
If so, why’s mine blonde?
Shit.
What if she’s a ghost?!
What if she’s a fucking ghost and haunting this room and I’m the only one who can see?!
“You teach English,” the chick sassily states, “so I know you can speak it.”
“How do you know that?” comes out raspier than anticipated.
“Dock.” She reaches over and offers me my round, gold framed glasses. “Who’ll be back shortly. He’s downstairs with a couple of the boys donating blood.”
Despite the pure pain pumping through my veins over every little movement I make, I slide my glasses onto my face and ask, “Why?”
“Like why are they donating blood?”
“Yeah.”
“You nearly dying of blood loss.” She begins to list on her fingers. “Flames bullying everyone into it because you have a ‘blood death thing’. Kegger turning it into a competition to prove Bones wrong about it not being one. Dive losing his shit after researching the critical blood shortage in this country. Free snacks, which my cousin, Stone, will do just about anything for.” Her eye roll tempts me into smirking. “He’s somehow always starving.” Her grin is warmly flashed in my direction. “I’m Nimue, by the way, but the boys all call me Lady. Dive’s my Old Man.”
“You…” struggling to talk encourages her to grab a cup from my bedside, “don’t have a….name…” she offers me the object, straw side towards my lips, “to match his?”
Instead of answering, she waits for me to have a small sip.
The ice-cold liquid somehow feels incredible and godawful at the same time.
