“I can fake the cash stash,” Deeds readily declares, “but you might need to buy me some time to make it look more legit.”

“I’ll see what I can do,” I immediately retort.

“Let’s get to work,” Stone instructs, face shifting to one that matches his name. “We bring Bay back alive and them in pieces.”

Chapter 24

Hogan

“Dock”

All I keep thinking about is…what if something happens to her?

What if she bumps her elbow?

Or her head?

Gets the tiniest scrape on her knee?

Or hand?

Breaks her glasses?

What happens if she starts bleeding?

What happens if it doesn’t stop?

That shit could kill her long before they even contemplate pressing the barrel against her temple.

Newfound fear folds into frustration leaving me no choice but to take another drag of my cigarette.

She has to be okay.

She just…has to be.

I’d feel it in my soul or some shit if she wasn’t.

Forfuckssake, why does that sound like some Wordsworth meets Poe bull that she should be teaching rather than me thinking?

“You showed,” the brown eyed kidnapper – whose name I still don’t fucking know – needlessly states during his exiting of her home. “You must care.”

“She’s my Old Lady.” Letting my smoke linger on my lips is done so that I can dramatically drop the duffle bag on the ground in front of my feet. “Of course, I fucking care.”

“Well, you may cost me a side bet that you’d let her die, but,” an amused shrug bounces his slender shoulders, “there’s still time to prove me right.”

Yeah.

I’mma be the one to feed this asshole a bullet.

No doubt.

“Phone,” demands the male in tandem with removing a small, black object from his pocket.

I don’t drop my cig.

I simply pull out my cell.

“Grass.”
