“Get your fucking hands off me!” Danillo shouts back.

“Like hell I will.” Lev squeezes tighter, and Danillo looks like he might … die. “Didn’t learn the first time you crossed me. I warned you what would happen next time.”

“Let… go.” Danillo coughs, tapping Lev’s arm.

“You will apologize right now.”

“Fuck you.”

Lev releases one hand to pull his gun from his back pocket, then he shoves it right in Danillo’s face.

My hands fly up to my cheeks. “Lev, no.”

“Stay back, printsessa. It’s time for this asshole to learn a lesson. Either he apologizes or he dies.”

God, Lev is serious. He’s actually serious. When he shot Danillo at the engagement party, he was making a statement. But this is… for me.

Lev cocks the hammer on the gun. Only then does Danillo look worried, showing he clearly thought Lev was bluffing before.

“One last chance,” Lev taunts.

“I’m… sorry.”

“Look at her. Don’t look at me.”

Danillo’s eyes dart to mine. “I’m sorry,” he coughs.

Lev releases him, and Danillo doubles over in a fit of coughs. He barely gets the chance to breathe before Lev grabs his arm and marches him out the door.

I follow. Of course, people are looking, casting their curious stares.

“Get him out of here before I kill him,” Lev growls at Roman.

Roman rushes over with the other guards. They grab Danillo under his arms and usher him out of the restaurant through the back.

Some people cast scathing looks my way, but I don’t give a rat’s ass what they think of me. I was the one who was assaulted in the bathroom. Not them.

Lev turns back to me and slides his gun back in his pocket. He extends his hand for me to take.

I didn’t realize I was shaking until I took his hand and noticed the tremor running through my fingers.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“We’re leaving.”

I nod.

He guides me out of the restaurant, and we climb into the back of the Maybach. Konstantin gets in the driver’s seat and starts up the car. We set off, and I try to calm myself.

“If you want me to kill him, just say the word,” Lev says in a low, rough voice.

I look at him, and I actually consider it. Kill Danillo. Of all the people who deserve death, he’s one of them. But who am I to make such a decision?

“No. He’s just… mean.”

Lev cuts me a hard glance. “Mean people get meaner.”
