“What?” Tyler said, still laughing. “I ain’t say nothing.”

“You was about to.”

Everybody started laughing.

I shook my head and scooped some macaroni onto my fork.

“This mac good as hell,” Destiny said beside me.

“You said that about everything on your plate.”

“Because everything on my plate good.”

Collin started squirming against me.

“I know, I know.” I looked down at him. “Mama trying to eat too.”

Sam leaned over from the other side of me. “You want me to take him?”

“No, I’m good.”

“Give me my baby.”

“Your baby?”

“Yes. All babies in this family belong to me.”

Aunt Amanda laughed. “She ain’t lying.”

Sam reached for Collin, and I handed him over.

“Thank you.”

She kissed his little cheek before settling him against her chest.

I watched her for a second.

That was the shit that made everything complicated.

Sam loved my son.

Didn’t even know who the fuck his father was.

I looked away and picked my fork back up.

“So when you going back to work for real?” Destiny asked me.

“I already went back.”

“That bottle girl shit don’t count.”

“It count when I’m getting paid.”

“You plan on dancing again?”

“After I get cleared.”
