“Nah, Toyin, but before you trip, I didn’t know you were family until I asked her about you.”
“Why were you asking her about me?”
“Because shit between us was weird and I was trying to figure out why.”
“You mean my veins glowing?”
I nodded. “Yeah, that shouldn’t have happened just from me feeding from you.”
“What did she say?”
“A lot, but mostly that fire is drawn to fire, which is good and bad. If the source doesn’t have control, it could be dangerous.”
“Sources as in us?”
I nodded and kissed the inside of her wrist. My gums were aching with need again.
“The only way to test that theory was for both of us to be angry to see if things got out of control but I promised her I wouldn’t piss you off. So the next best thing to unchecked emotions from anger was sex.”
“So you basically fucked me until I passed out to see if our flames combined and turned destructive.”
And I’m ready to do it again.
I grinned and shrugged. “Something like that.”
“Are you crazy?” She shoved my shoulder hard and I laughed but she wasn’t amused and swung on me again. I caught her wrist before she could make contact.
“Chill with all that.”
“No I will not. What if this went left and we burned up my apartment?”
“I would have fixed that for you. I can afford it.”
“Are you serious right now?” She narrowed her eyes and I yanked her arms, pulling her into my chest, bringing my mouth over hers.
“Deadass, because whatever this is, I need, and so do you. You’re welcome.”
She stared at me for a minute before she shook her head, smiling. “What I need right now is to talk to my cousin.”
“You don’t trust me?”
“Absolutely not.”
I chuckled. “Damn, I ain’t never lied to you. Why don’t you trust me?”
Her eyes narrowed more and I grinned. “I’m not gonna lie to you, Uri. I don’t have to. I have the power to get whatever I want.”
My eyes met hers and she blinked, rearing her head back, realizing what I was saying. If I chose to control her mind and sway her thoughts, I could and she wouldn’t know or be able to do a damn thing about it.
“Relax. This will only ever be about what you want. I won’t ever play you like that.”
“Have you played other women?”
I frowned hard. “Hell nah. You really think I need to control women or manipulate them to get their time?”
She relaxed. “No.”
