“What you read?” Her eyes rolled hard. “I’m assuming you mean online?”
“Told you that was bullshit,” Hale said, speaking up for the first time. I shot him a glare and he chuckled.
You know it’s bullshit. You see what they put out there in the world about vampires. I don’t know why you would believe any of what’s out there about witches.
It’s based on some truths.
“Stop using your fucking links or you can leave,” Xander stated in anger.
“But it’s cool when you do it?” I angled my head to the side and his fist clenched.
“You need us, we don’t need you,” he said arrogantly.
“Xander…” Toyin warned and he kissed the top of her head and relaxed.
How did this little bitty thing calm his big ass down so easily?
“Are you sure her veins were glowing?” she questioned, concerned.
“Yeah, I’m sure.”
“Shit,” she mumbled.
“What?”
“That’s not normal, even for a fire witch, but She’s Circle of Ember and you’re Danakil. Fire attracts fire.”
“That’s a good thing, right?” Hale said.
“Not always.” Toyin sighed, then looked at me, concerned. “Fire with fire is compounding. Intense. Pretty much the representation of raw fire. If I want quick results or rapid manifestation, I layer my intention with fire.”
I understood what was being expressed.
“You think we’re dangerous together?”
“I don’t think, I know. Fire is all consuming and destructive. It can’t exist without some type of consequence. In a sense, fire creates and destroys. But after the destruction, there’s a transformation of something new. That begins with heat, smoke, ash, and light. When you mix fire with fire, the transformation rarely happens due to the continuous loop. Fire drawn to fire is also chaotic and emotionally charged. It spirals out of control. With it being so powerful and rapid moving, nothing is safe. There’s no energy to anchor rage, so all you have is chaos.”
“You’re damn sure not making this shit sound pretty,” I muttered.
She frowned. “Because it’s not. Fire elements birth amplified egos and resistance to correction.”
“She’s basically saying you’re arrogant as fuck and don’t listen to anyone,” Hale said with a smirk.
“Aren’t you both fire?” Xander said cockily, looking from me to Hale. Toyin elbowed him, making me laugh under my breath.
Toyin sighed. “It’s not absolute. Two fire elements together can sometimes work, but only when one or both have restraint. Most don’t. It’s easier to allow the fire to consume and take over. I’m assuming you’re here because one of you is calling to the other.”
“Yeah.” I hated to admit the real reason I was here but there was no point in lying. “We’re not mates but we’re something. I have to figure that shit out.”
She studied me for a minute and lifted her hand, circling a finger, outlining my face. I tensed and leaned back, but she only smiled then rolled her eyes.
“What the fuck did you just do?”
“I read you.”
“You can read his thoughts?” Hale asked.
“No, just his energy, and when I said Uri’s name before, I tested his energy. It blazed orange, then blue, and is now black.”
