“I didn’t help you.”
“You’re holding me.”
“I happened to be standing where you leaned.”
Thomas muttered something I couldn’t hear.
Commander Keating waited until Nathan helped him into a chair beneath the patio.
Agent Morales placed a small recorder on the table.
“With your permission, I’d like to record this conversation.”
Thomas nodded.
“You identified the man recovered from Blackwater as Jonathan Sinclair?”
“I believe it’s him.”
“What was your relationship with Mr. Sinclair?”
“He was my friend’s younger brother.”
“James Sinclair?”
“Yes.”
“When did you last see Jonathan?”
Thomas looked toward Mom.

“Three years ago.”
My breath caught.
“Where?” Agent Morales asked.
“Here in Hawaii.”
Mom stared at him.
“Dad was here three years ago?”
Thomas closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
“That isn’t possible. Dad was in San Francisco.”
“No. He came to Hawaii approximately five weeks before he died.”
Mom took a step backward.
Nathan steadied her.
“Why?”
