“I am not fertile.”

“You sound very certain.”

“Gharrgoil males are fertile for only a short time during each planetary cycle. I would know if that time was approaching.”

“How?”

“My scent would change. My lowest node would swell more readily, and I would feel a constant need to seed you.”

Robyn blinked. “I’m sorry I asked.”

“You said you wanted answers.”

“I did. I’m just not sure I needed the phrase ‘constant need to seed you’ in my life.”

I shrugged, flapping my wings slightly. “It is accurate.”

“It’s horrifying.”

Her lips twitched.

I moved closer, stopping several steps away from her. “I cannot give you offspring today.”

“That’s reassuring, but pregnancy isn’t the only reason humans use protection.”

“I have no diseases.”

“Again, very confident.”

“Our healers examined us before every journey to another planet. I have not mated with anyone since my last examination.”

Her gaze sharpened. “Which was more than five hundred years ago.”

“Yes.”

“That may be the least sexy thing anyone has ever said to me. Or maybe it’s sexy that I’ll be your first after such a long time. I’m not quite sure.”

“I have spent most of that time as stone. I couldn’t even touch myself.”

“I know. It just makes it sound as though you haven’t had sex for five hundred years.”

“I have not.”

The scent of her arousal deepened.

Interesting. Maybe she found it sexy after all.

“I do remember how to do it,” I reassured her. “I had a bit of a reputation back on Spiris.”

She cocked an eyebrow. “A reputation, eh?”

“I will show you my skills soon enough.”

“I will hold you to that.” She opened the bag beside the bed and took out a small square packet. “I brought condoms. This weekend was supposed to involve a date, after all. I didn’t honestly think I’d need them, but Keira insisted.”
