“What if I have?” she admitted, holding her breath as she waited for his reaction.
A moment of silence passed.
“Wizard?”
“Yes.”
“Natalia, please don’t let yourself get hurt again.”
“That’s easier said than done.”
She heard Rocco’s deep exhale over the phone. “You’re that serious about him?”
“I wish I weren’t, but I am.”
“How does he feel?”
“That’s the million-dollar question. I don’t know. He says he wants to marry me, but I think he’s joking.”
“You want me to drive to the club and find out for you?”
Natalia laughed at his harsh tone. “Don’t you dare lay a hand on Wizard.”
“Why the hell not?”
“Because I love him.”
CHAPTER 43
TIME’S RUNNING OUT
Was Natalia dodging his fucking calls? Finally sorting out where to get a suit from, he had tried a fuck ton of times to call her back, even leaving a voicemail, yet she had yet to respond to him.
He decided to head to the office to start working on the next work schedule for the factory. Jesus, sorting out the different shifts was a pain in his ass. Growing impatient with Natalia not returning his calls, he was about to ride over to the restaurant.
“You ready?” Doom asked from the doorway. “We need to get to the bonfire early to take our places.”
“Fuck me.” He had forgotten about the bonfire tonight. Blue had organized two other bonfires. Each had drawn more and more crowds as word spread to different cliques.
“You actually think they’ll show tonight?”
“Your guess is as good as mine.” Doom shrugged. “I’m hoping because their lawyer got another continuance, the little shits will get cocky.”
Doom was right. He needed to find out if Natalia was as pissed at him as he thought she was. He had blown off her phone calls; now he was paying the price. Should he forget the bonfire or go smooth things over with her? There was only one choice: he needed to be at the bonfire if the girls showed.
Natalia had patiently listened to his reports about what The Last Riders were doing to minimize the damage done to her reputation, yet with each step forward, they had taken two steps backward. Every setback had etched the lines of worry on Natalia’s face deeper. He ran a business; he knew the cost of keeping it afloat, and from his calculations, she was running on borrowed time.
“If it’s another no-show, I’m going to their houses and drag them out myself,” he snarled, standing up from his chair. “I’ve had enough of this fucking game they’re playing.”
“Let me go talk to Taylor. We know she’s been behind this from the start.”
“I already did.”
Doom looked at him in surprise. “When?”
“A few weeks ago.”
A frown darkened Doom’s expression. “Why didn’t you tell me? Why the big secret?”
