“I have a hypothetical scenario,” I said, sitting up straighter. “Let’s just say that I wanted to look around someone’s house. You could get me in there, right? You could do that plane-shifting thing of yours, go through the wall, and then open the door for me.”

“Yes.”

No hesitation whatsoever. “Are there any buildings you can’t get inside?”

“No.”

I closed the laptop and rested my head against the back of the armchair. It was insane to even consider taking the law into my own hands. Besides, a visit to his house would require me to know his home address. I knew his business address, but it was doubtful that he’d leave anything incriminating there. It would be best to forget about it altogether and get on with my life. After all, I had other things to think about, like the monster on my sofa who claimed to love me.

I opened the laptop again. This time my search focused on finding a private detective. I had a straightforward job for someone. All I needed them to do was find one address.

Chapter Twenty-two

Rowan

I lasted two more days before my patience finally reached breaking point. It happened while I was in the shower, eyes closed and a hand wrapped around my cock. I’d only managed a few lazy strokes while trying to think of something worth fantasizing about. The problem was that every image that came to mind involved Caligo. Caligo inhabiting Dr. Collin’s body so he could fuck me. Caligo kissing me before Laura’s interruption forced him to disappear. Caligo coming between my thighs while he jerked me off.

So the question screaming to be answered was why I was in here, desperately trying to summon the enthusiasm to masturbate while he was right out there? I abandoned the shower, pausing only to wrap a towel around my waist before going to find him. He was on the sofa, but the TV wasn’t on.

“Aren’t you interested in me anymore?” I asked.

His gaze fastened on a droplet of water. He followed its progress from my collarbone, past a nipple, and all the way down until it met the absorbent obstacle of the towel at my waist.

He tipped his head to one side. “Is someone feeling neglected?” His voice had never been smokier. It had the same effect it always did—my cock immediately plumped, which was an issue when all I wore was a towel.

“Someone is feeling confused,” I admitted.

“You asked me to give you space. You asked me not to climb into your bed and touch you. I followed your instructions.”

“I meant that night. That was days ago.” Frustration lent my words a bitter edge.

“So you want me to touch you now?”

“Yes… no… I don’t know.”

“You want me to want to touch you, so you can say no.”

“What? No, it’s not like that at all. At least I don’t think it is.”

Caligo reached out, his fingers curling around the edge of the towel. He didn’t pull. He didn’t even really touch me. His fingers simply rested against the fabric.

“It’s confusing,” I said, unable to tear my gaze away from his hand and increasingly preoccupied with how little effort it would take for him to remove the towel. “I shouldn’t want you.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m human and you’re not. You’re…”

“A monster?”

“I wasn’t going to use that word.”

“What word were you going to use?”

“Nonhuman?” It might have sounded convincing had I not turned it into a question. “I just… you said all that stuff, and you followed me here, but we haven’t been intimate since that first night, and it’s messing with my head.” I leaned back slightly, testing the give of the towel. Perhaps if I were naked, things would be easier.

Caligo wasn’t so easily fooled, though. Instead, he allowed his hand to move with me, the towel staying firmly in place. “Do you want me to go out and find someone?”

“What do you mean?”
